Another season wraps up for our girls and they had another very good season. Wrapped things up with a 2-1 win over Royal Oak FC this morning and then a trip to Lansing for a 3-1 victory over Michigan Futbol Academy out of Grand Rapids. A lot of change this year and the girls came through with another solid season, finishing 3rd in the top division of MSPSP and a tournament win shorthanded in Sandusky, Ohio. Good luck to most of these girls as they split off to start their high schools careers this spring

It was a defensive smackdown this weekend for our girls. It’s tough to lose when you don’t give up a goal in all four games. Four clean sheets as the girls rolled to a Kalihari Cup championship. They won their first game this morning going away and then topped the Ohio Storm for the second straight day with another 1-0 win.

Apparently the Thundercats signed Tarik Skubal to play this weekend after the Tigers departure from the playoffs. Like Skubal, the girls puts zeros on the board this morning. First they shutout Royal Oak FC, 2-0 and then turned around an hour later and blanked the Ohio Storm 1-0, clinching a spot in the championship game with a game remaining in the morning.

It’s a late start to the season for our 2010 team and they had a good one today. The rolled Nationals Capitol Area 5-0. They played a solid game and had a solid weekend. Playing short handed yesterday the girls dropped a heartbreaker with just 11 girls. The girls have two games next weekend starting Friday at Stars.

WHAT A COMEBACK!!!! We’ve had a lot of exciting games with the girls through the years and this one ranks right up there. Taking on the Bloomingdale (Ill) Lightning the girls were trailing 1-0 with about 90 seconds left to play. The girls evened the game with a little help with a own goal which was misplayed by the goalie. The kids then took advantage in extra time as the girls snatched the improbable win with a goal with just a few seconds to play to take a dramatic 2-1 victory. The girls sweep all 3 Chicago teams they played this weekend to take all 9 points. These kids played some really good soccer this weekend against some really good teams. The kids finish off the season in two weeks when they look to bring some more hardware home in the Canton Cup.

The girls rocketed up the NLC Midwest Conference standings with a pair of big wins over teams from the Windy City today over in Hartland. First the girls pitched a shutout over the Chicago Rush, 2-0. Next up was a matchup with Chicago Inferno and the kids took care of them 3-1, earning six big points and shooting up the standings ladder. These young ladies look for the 3-game weekend sweep of Chicago area teams tomorrow at 1:00 in Hartland.

The Detroit Lions ventured south to take on the Cincinnati Bengals this morning, wait, I’m being told it was a soccer game instead. The girls overcame a two goal deficit playing against a team that let’s just say crossed the line when it came to physical play. Our girls came back and netted the last two goals to walk away with a 2-2 tie. Very proud of how these kids fought back, especially on the scoreboard. The kids are off for the rest of the day (having fun hanging out with each other) before playing two more games tomorrow.

The girls’ spring season kicked off tonight in the Cincinnati Elite Thaw tournament against Kings Hammer, the 8th ranked team in Kentucky, and took control in the second half. After a scoreless first half the girls scored the first and the final two goals to take a 3-1 win. Pretty impressive since this was their first time outside this season. Great effort from the girls, now they have to bring it tomorrow at 8:00 am.

The only thing more dominant over the state of Ohio than the Michigan football team is our 2010 Thundercats. The kids traveled to northeast Ohio this weekend to take part in the Cleveland Indoor Classic 7v7 tournament. The girls split into two teams with both teams winning their divisions. The “Orange” team won the top division while the “Gray” team won the second division in dominate fashion. A great way to start the spring. The girls return to that state to the south next month to take part in the Cincinnati Elite Thaw.

The girls had a great time during their annual Christmas party together today. Gift giving and cookie making and hanging out and having a good time with each other. These girls enjoy each other’s company both on and off the field. Thank you to Dan and April Hardy for hosting.

It was a very good and exciting day for our girls today in Grand Rapids. They are taking on three teams from Illinois as they wrap up their first season in the Midwest Conference. They started the day in a driving rain storm, but that had no effect on the kids as they beat up Galaxy 2010, thumping them 8-1. The second game proved to be much tougher against Lyons (Ill) Township Soccer Club. Tailing 3-2 in the final minutes our girls scored the equalizer with 10 seconds remaining to pull out at 3-3 tie. The kids wrap up the regular season tomorrow against another Illinois team in Grand Rapids.
