On this day in 1992, the Hartford Whalers unveiled their new blue uniforms and silver logo.

Part of the reason? Quebec Nordiques owner Marcel Aubut had apparently said the Whalers looked "little" in their green road uniforms. Whalers owner Richard Gordon unveiled the new set, saying the team wanted to “keep some of the past and also show some of the future.”

Happy birthday to Ron Francis, born on this day in 1963 in Sault Ste. Marie!
In his Hall of Fame career, he won two Stanley Cups, three Lady Byngs, the King Clancy and the Frank J. Selke. He recorded 1,798 points in 1,731 games and his 1,249 career assists ranks second all-time.

RIP Bruce Berlet —- an excellent journalist and big Whalers supporter. He will be missed.

Bruce Berlet, who covered the Whalers, UConn women, pro and amateur golf for The Courant for 38 years, has died. He was 77.
