The Hartford Youth Wrestling Club has been dedicated for years in providing youth in and around Hartford mat time to develop not only wrestling skills – but life skills, making them better at just about everything they do. The Jalen Spuhler Wrestling Camp is underway!

Our youth wrestlers have an incredible opportunity to learn from one of Hartford’s most accomplished wrestlers. We’re grateful to have Jalen giving back to the next generation, sharing high-level technique, valuable experience, and, most importantly, his passion and love for the sport of wrestling.

It’s not every day young athletes get to learn from a three-time NCAA All-American, and we’re excited to see our wrestlers grow.

Last night we wrapped up our season at the youth wrestling banquet, and it was one of those nights that reminds you what this program is really about.

We had the chance to recognize and thank our coaching staff, they give their time, energy, and heart to these kids day in and day out. This club doesn’t run without you.

We were also proud to present our college scholarship to Gavin Wolters, who will continue his wrestling career at UW–Parkside while studying criminal justice.

We recognized our state qualifiers and state place winners for their hard work and accomplishments this season. This was a well earned recognition and a great example for the younger kids coming up.

And finally, we had to say goodbye to a special group of 8th graders. This is a tough one every year. These kids have helped shape our program, and they’re leaving it better than they found it. We’re proud of each of you and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Thank you to all the families, wrestlers, and supporters who make this club what it is. Another great season in the books.

🚨 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

After a long offseason of reflection, film study, and a few too many single-leg finishes… we’ve made a decision.

Effective immediately, our wrestling program will be shutting down.

We know this may come as a shock, but after careful evaluation, we’ve realized there is a much more physical, demanding, and contact-heavy sport our athletes should pursue…

🏀 Basketball 🏀

That’s right — no more takedowns, no more mat time. It’s time to focus on:
• Light jogging up and down the court
• Occasional high fives
• And the truly brutal act of shooting free throws

We strongly encourage all wrestlers to trade in their singlets for headbands and start working on their three-point game immediately.

Coach Becker will be available to help transition your skills, although he is still figuring out how a double-leg translates into a pick-and-roll.

Thank you for your dedication to the sport of wrestling… it’s been a good run!

Hartford Wrestling was proudly represented at the 2026 WWF State Championships with 16 athletes stepping onto the state stage and competing with heart, grit, and pride.

Notable performances included:
160 lb Owen Porter – 6th place
72 lb Roman Becker – 5th place
95 lb Ava Homulos – 4th place
112 lb Amiyah Vasquez – 4th place
63 lb Hudson Becker – 3rd place
73 lb Nickson Petri – 3rd place
72 lb Bennett Becker – 🏆 STATE CHAMPION

Beyond the podium finishes, what stood out most was how our athletes carried themselves throughout the weekend competing with toughness, respect, and outstanding sportsmanship.

Every match reflected the work put in by these wrestlers, their coaches, and the families who support them year-round. Hartford Wrestling continues to be represented with pride both on and off the mat.

Our club was represented with pride, grit, and heart leaving it all on the mat. We couldn’t be more proud of our placers, state qualifiers, and everyone behind the scenes from practice partners, coaches, and families who represented our program with class all season long.

We’re looking forward to celebrating together at the banquet on April 7th!
