Some of our conversations we have with the middle school group talking about our goals for the drill and the purpose behind it.
Here I’m challenging them with pitches 65-70mph to help them get used to seeing these pitches & make adjustments to hit those higher velos. Like I said results weren’t my #1 goal here & I just wanted to see how they would make adjustments to get on time with these pitches.
Practice should be challenging and it’s important to push your athletes so the game is easier, which also makes success more rewarding when they get the job done ✅ Next Level Athletic Development, LLC - Mike Martin, Owner

Here’s a typical warm up we do & conversations we have for our middle school hitting/strength camp🔥
I like doing tee work with a purpose, not just thoughtless swings that don’t help them progress. Having the kids learn something from it to take into their swings later is ideal for ongoing development 🤓
It’s important to keep it light and fun for these kids because they’re kids & not everything has to be super serious 🕺🏻
Have fun with them & challenge them to be better 🤝

Highlight of Lilian Berry’s progress this summer ⚡️
Lilian made huge strides in her swing and continued to hit the ball harder & harder with each session we had. 🔥
Lilian had a goal of hitting the ball harder more consistently & I’d say we hit the nail on the head this summer
Rotation is essential to have as a softball/baseball player & this was something we hammered away at through hitting drills, MB rotational shotput/backhand throws for velo, Water ball feel work etc.
Weighted bats/balls played a huge role in her increasing her exit velocity, as well as barrel accuracy
I’m excited for her future at North Alabama & to see the numbers she puts up there!

Lower effort swings ✅
Teaches hitters to relax in their swing & stay smooth 🕺🏻
Some hitters tend to get tense when swinging and it causes their swing to be slow/robotic which isn’t what we want.

Middle school group has really been swinging it🔥
Heres a look at the “chair/bucket” drill 🪑
I like this drill to help athletes stay loaded in their backside & to stand up in a good athletic position.
It also teaches them to have rhythm & proper sequencing going into their swing.
It’s important to challenge your athletes by putting them into different positions to help them feel how they’re supposed to be moving & understand it. ✅

Part of a feel/movement day with the middle school hitters ⚾️
I like to do drills like this lo to hi MB chop to help hitters feel rotation in their pelvis and build good patterns for their swing ✅
It also challenges them to maintain their balance & use the ground for stability
I believe having a good ”feel” for your swing is essential to have success as a hitter & this along with other drills helps them put together a good swing🔥 Next Level Athletic Development, LLC - Mike Martin, Owner

A big issue I see with younger athletes and even in some older athletes is losing their backside(pushy) in their swing and drift forward. ❌
This causes the hitter to lose power and to often times change their eye level making it even harder to see the ball well. 👀
Athletes sometimes think “go get the ball” and can get fooled by breaking balls more often then not, With this step behind drill it teaches them to stay in their backside hinge, to maintain rhythm/ proper sequence in their swing and to let the ball travel.
Here’s my middle school athletes taking some step behind swings 🔥 Next Level Athletic Development, LLC - Mike Martin, Owner

Stop at contact with the black(heavy) axe bat is one of the hitting drills we currently do with the Middle School hitting camp 🔥 I like this drill because it teaches the hitter to deliver the barrel, have enough strength to decelerate the barrel & still have good results. The axe bat we used is a 37in/37oz so it's make the hitter uncomfortable & have to make adjustments to get the results they're wanting.
