A huge thank you to Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center for welcoming the VAIL Harrisonburg Cardinals basketball team and giving students the opportunity to learn more about adaptive recreation! 🏀

We had an amazing time introducing students to adaptive sports and getting everyone involved in a fun 4-on-4 game. Opportunities like these help promote inclusion, teamwork, and awareness while showing that recreation and sports can be accessible to everyone.

Did you know? Adaptive recreation has
a powerful history! 🌟

Following major conflicts like World War I and World
War II, thousands of injured veterans returned home
with disabilities. Recreation and sports became key
parts of rehabilitation, helping individuals rebuild
strength, confidence, and independence.

By the 1960s, the Paralympic Games brought global
attention to the importance of inclusive sports and the
incredible abilities of athletes with disabilities.

The Americans with Disabilities Act later expanded
access to parks, programs, and public spaces, making
recreation more inclusive for all.

Today, adaptive recreation continues to grow, creating
opportunities for everyone to participate, connect, and
thrive. 💙
