It’s week 3 of National Shooting Sports Month and we’re talking about the Rifle this time!
Rifles have been use since the 15th century. The term “Rifling” means to scratch or groove. Rifles used to have straight grooves etched into the inside of the barrel. Now they are spiraled which spins the projectile as it exits and greatly increase the accuracy and range.
Rifles played an integral role in many wars. In 1871, due to a lack of marksmanship observed in troops, Union veterans formed the National Rifle Association. Over the years the NRA grew and started hosting matches in 1907 at Camp Perry Ohio.
FSA’s rifle range is among the safest in the nation. The range is 100 yards and staffed with volunteer RSOs when the range is open (call ahead for availability). FSA is also has a Rifle Range Certification program, allowing certified members to use the range anytime the club is open, regardless of RSO availability. We also have an active youth program for rifle as well as air rifle! Reach out to learn more!
