Visiting Japan in 1984. Before making it to Okinawa, we had a few days that we spent in Japan, to visit and site see. Japan is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly and courteous.
The Policeman I met spoke English, and I found out that we had 2 things in common. We both were Law Enforcement officers, and we both practiced Judo, however he was a 4th Dan in Judo, and I will still a novice.
We also met Hisataka Masayuki Sensei from ShorinJiryu KarateDo, who took us to the Budokan (Martial Arts Center) and the Kodokan (Judo HdQtrs Training Center), where I was honored to meet Risei Kano, one of the 3 sons of the founder of Judo, Jigiro Kano O-sensei.
Later one evening, we were also invited by Hisataka Sensei to training at his Dojo in Tokyo. We also spent a our last day visiting many sites in the Tokyo area.
In 1991, after training in Okinawa, I made another stop in Japan and spent another week, visiting many sites in both Tokyo and Kyoto. I encourage any serious Martial Artists, to make at least one Life Time visit, as it will immerse you deeper into the culture.
