Bradford Prep Makes History with the Launch of the Cycling Club!
December 1, 2025 — Today marks an exhilarating moment in the history of Bradford Prep School as we officially launch The Bradford Prep Cycling Club, and we are thrilled to announce that we are the first school in the entire Charlotte area to establish a mountain biking team affiliated with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA)!

The energy on campus is electric, and the excitement for our inaugural team is palpable. This momentous occasion was underscored by a special commendation, as we received a congratulatory note from the Governor, recognizing our commitment to pioneering a new and healthy athletic endeavor for our students.

What is NICA? Strong Minds, Bodies, and Character
The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), pronounced Nye-Kuh, is a non-profit organization dedicated to building strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling.

Unlike traditional competitive sports, NICA focuses on inclusivity, equity, and fun, with five core values:

Fun: Inspiring joy and friendship through adventure.
Inclusivity: There are no try-outs, and no one sits on the bench. Every student is welcome, regardless of skill or fitness level.
Equity: Committed to providing fair treatment and eliminating barriers so all students can participate.
Respect: Fostering consideration for others, oneself, and the outdoors.
Community: Uniting diverse people and families through the shared experience of cycling.
NICA provides the framework, training, and support for high school and middle school mountain biking programs across the United States. Its mission goes far beyond racing; it uses the bicycle as a tool for youth development, getting kids off screens, and into nature to build confidence and resilience.

A New Era of Extra Curricular Activities at Bradford Prep
Joining NICA allows our students to participate in regional league races and events, all within a positive and supportive environment. This new club provides an alternative athletic path for students in 5th-12th grades, teaching them lifelong skills, trail etiquette, environmental stewardship (through programs like Teen Trail Corps), and the rewards of sustained effort.

We look forward to sharing updates, photos, and news from The Bradford Prep Cycling Club as they hit the trails and compete in their inaugural season.
