This weekend I had the opportunity to be one of the instructors at the Recteq Academy at Recteq headquarters alongside BBQ, Chef Greg, Chef John, and Stevie. What an incredible three days spent doing what we love.
The Recteq Academy is a hands-on experience where attendees come from all over the nation to learn, cook, and immerse themselves in the world of barbecue. Over three days, they break into groups and, with the help of instructors, cook chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket while learning techniques they can take home and put to use right away.
They also get to watch a whole hog preparation and cooking demonstration—and enjoy eating it afterward. It was absolutely delicious. One of the coolest parts of the experience is getting to see and cook on the entire Recteq grills lineup. From steaks and pizzas to whole hogs and the four main competition meats, there is no shortage of great food, great instruction, and hands-on learning.
What makes it truly special is the people. Spending three days with barbecue enthusiasts from all across the country, making new friends, sharing stories, talking barbecue, and creating memories is what it's all about. By the end of the weekend, strangers become friends and everyone leaves with a little more knowledge, a full stomach, and memories that will last a lifetime.
A special congratulations goes out to my team, who proudly named themselves "The Moist Meat Munchers." They brought the energy, had a great attitude, participated every step of the way, and made the weekend a lot of fun. The scores were incredibly tight, but we managed to squeeze out the Grand Championship and bring home the win. I couldn't have asked for a better group to cook alongside for three days.
Now it's time to head home and see the family. I'm truly thankful for opportunities like this that allow me to share my passion for barbecue, represent Rio Valley Meat BBQ, and introduce more people to our seasonings and brand.
