Elliott's Golf Club Fitting Experience, this is a bit of a long read but if you play golf and are looking to improve your game or parts of your game, this article if for you.
Elliott’s Custom Golf Fitting System
History:
Elliott’s Custom Golf has been fitting golfers for the past 38 years. In the early years, we did not have the equipment available for “dynamic fittings”. We relied on static measurements to create the proper fit. This was the best we had at the time and was not very accurate.
Dynamic Fitting:
Once we received our first piece of “custom fitting equipment”, we began “dynamic fittings”. You were actually swinging a club, equipment measured your club head speed and your swing path. We began dynamic lie fittings along with the fitting experience.
Launch Monitor/Fitting Systems:
Fast forward to the present, we are now “fitting centers” for Mizuno, Wilson, Callaway, Taylormade, Srixon and Cobra. Our Mizuno fitting system can morph into a fitting center for most brands. This state of the art piece of equipment coupled with our SkyTrak launch monitor allows us to fit our customers in any brand they desire. The difference between our original equipment and a launch monitor is the measurements is ball related not club related. Our current equipment can now give us all information about what the golf ball does once struck by the golf club. Launch, side spin, back spin, head speed, ball speed, carry distance, roll out, total distance, smash factor, ascent, decent and others are calculated and displayed on our hitting screen via our projector.
Fitting Options:
Iron Fittings: The use of the Mizuno Optimizer, gives us the ability to identify the golfers “golf DNA”. The “optimizer” “bluetooths” the information to our iPad and designates the top 3 shafts that should perform best with our “golfers DNA”. Now, with the use of our SkyTrak launch monitor, we can test each suggestion along with the golfers existing clubs. Our goal is to find a club that can optimize the golfers experience. It may be distance, accuracy or feel. Each golfer is different, and will make his/her own decision. ($50)
Driver/Wood Fittings: This fitting allows us to to compare your existing driver or fairway wood to possibly something better. We create a base with the golfers driver on our SkyTrak launch monitor. Once established, we move to testing our existing stock or demo products. Based on swing speed, tempo and spin determines our testing. We also can introduce a ball that could gain the golfer better distance and control. We have many demo drivers from most major brands as well as a host of fine used drivers. Our goal is to find the golfer distance and control with the “big stick”. ($50)
Wedge Matrix: Short game is second to none. Mastering the short game is of utmost importance. Our goal is to give the golfer the knowledge of a pitch, 1/2 swing, 3/4 swing and full swing for each of his wedges (PW, GW, SW, LW) (pitch, gap, sand, lob). We will ask our golfer to give us 5 good swings each type of swing. Once this is done, our Sky Trak launch monitor will create a matrix. Distance of club and type of swing. Once the golfers have this information in his head (on paper), all he has to do is execute the shot. This take a lot of stress off the golfer. Instant gratification! ($50)
Bag Mapping: Our goal is to map your bag. We ask the golfer (once warmed) to hit each club in his bag. 5 good shots are asked to be struck. Once this is completed, our SkyTrak launch monitor configures all the results and gives the golfer the numbers he/she needs to score. It will also determine issues (gaps in distances). These issues may be the result of a re shaft, bad loft/lie or flex. This alerts us to check the out the clubs for potential issue. ($50)
Summary: Most of our fittings run at least an hour and sometimes 1.5 hours. Introducing Gene Hanvy, he has been our fitter for the last 15 years. Gene has worked countless hours learning our system along with counseling with PGA Professional Joe Powell. Add a little “Cajun C**n Ass” logic, you will never forget your fitting experience. Woodie Howell has 30 years teaching golf experience. The fitting experience is a learning experience, Woodie, as retired educator brings the learning experience to the front. Gume Laurel has been a golf coach for many years and is great with golfer that need swing thoughts and tips as well as the specialty fittings above. Gume and Woodie worked together at WISD East High School. Fitting goals are both simply the same “Play Better Golf”.
FAQ: Can we fit and sell Ping prducts? We are a small shop and Ping has decided not to offer us account status. We cannot sell Ping goods. That all being stated Ping does offer some great products and once you go through our “Iron Fitting” we can offer suggestions on Ping head and shaft combination. We can then refer you to a Ping account holder to fullfill your Ping request.
FAQ: Can we fit and sell Titleist prducts? Exact same story as above.
We would love to offer Ping and Titleist products but this is the call of their sales representatives and corporate policies.
