Even though I’ve stepped back from training others, fitness and living this lifestyle has remained at the forefront for me daily! My husband posted this yesterday and at first I was a little horrified because the picture on the left makes me cringe a little.(or a lot) About a year before that left picture I had my second baby. I was determined to compete, and I had just lost ALL of the weight I gained while pregnant and started prep. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I just knew I wanted to compete in bikini fitness and went for it. I was clearly over dieted, I didn’t know how to pose, but at the time I didn’t know any of that. Fast forward to the picture on the right. 11 years later at 41, plus add another pregnancy in there, a few surgeries(not elective) and a lot of building and learning. I just want to let ALL of y’all know that bodybuilding is a sport that doesn’t discriminate against age. In fact, it welcomes you to challenge the whole ,” I can’t because I’m too old” “I can’t because I’m too big, or too small with no muscle.” I will say that the sport requires determination, consistency and keeping at it even when you wake up and see ZERO changes. The changes will happen. They WILL be visible if you keep at it. After the picture on the right is when I really dove into studying about the body, how to build and train myself correctly and I also fell in love with other avenues of fitness which all played a part in creating a physique I wanted to create. I competed 3 more times after that first show and improved each time. Advice? Commit to the plan from your coach (yes I recommend hiring one , and even a trainer needs a trainer at times!!)Be coachable, just listen and see what happens when you actually listen instead of looking for shortcuts or not completely listening. Of course make sure you hire a coach that doesn’t compromise your health and works with you on what’s best for YOU! At 41 I aim to prove to myself that I will only get better with time. That I can grow those quads more and step on that national stage in 2022 and hopefully have all 3 kids there to watch. DONT give up guys. It might take YEARS to achieve the kind of growth you want. Change the immediate gratification mindset and you will soar on your fitness journey.
