This morning, Friday, June 19th, Emmet Clay Sports was the venue for Adam Johnson’s bachelor party. Organized by Will Hefler, the group of 18 strong completed their waivers and were then given a safety briefing. After ‘eyes and ears’, shotguns, and ammunition were disseminated, squads departed the clubhouse in carts for a shotgun start at Stations 4, 3, and 2. Club officers worked with novice shooters at Station #1 on shotgun handling, gun mount, body and foot position, and basics of clay target paths and points.

After completing 50 rounds per person on the 14 station Sporting Clays Course, the group returned for a round of 5-Stand, with top shooters from each squad shooting going head to head, with other squad mates rotating in. Based upon the smiles and feedback upon their return to the clubhouse, all in attendance had a great time.

FUN DAY! As communicated in the shared post below, despite the less than pleasant conditions, Coach Kathleen Blust’s Pellston Clay Target Team hosted Coach John Kirkowski’s Hiawatha Hitman yesterday. The Hiawatha Hitman are supported by, and practice at, the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club located in Engadine, MI. The squads and parents enjoyed a potluck in between shooting Trap on the Lower Field.

Best of success to the Pellston Clay Target Team as they head down to compete in the state clay shooting tournament later this week.

Emmet Clay Sports was bustling Sunday morning with Coach Kathleen Blust's Pellston Clay Target Team hosting Coach John Kirkowski's Hiawatha Hitman. Billed as a 'Fun Shoot' to get the teams together to meet, enjoy a potluck, and break clays together on the lower Trap field.

The Hiawatha Hitman hail from the U.P. and practice at the the Hiawatha Sportsman's Club in Engadine, near Naubinway, @1 hr 30 min from ECS.

This was also a great warm up for the Pellston Clay Target Team as they head down later this week to compete in the state tournament.

Despite the cooler temps and rain, it was great to see the two squads trading shots and enjoyed a fun day of clay shooting.

NOTICE: BE BEAR AWARE
This morning at 4:19 a.m. we had an early visitor at the clubhouse.
REMINDER:
PLEASE do not dispose of any food or food wrappers in any of the hull cans on the Sporting Clays Course or any other clay shooting venue. Bears are always searching for food and recognize familiar food sources. Bears are curious, intelligent animals that have great memories. Their eyesight is similar to humans and their sense of smell is seven times more powerful than a blood hound’s, enabling them to smell food from miles away.

ECS was hopping this past weekend. With members and guests shooting the newly opened Sporting Clays Course and on Sunday, the Pellston Clay Target Team celebrating the team's achievements with a Fun Day and potluck.

Emmet Clay Sports - Sporting Clays Course

This evening I shot our Sporting Clays Course for the first time of the season. Having installed all the station electronics, and solar panels on 5/13 & 5/14, and having led our Spring Clean-Up on 5/15, this was my 'first look' at the fruit of many peoples' labor. While the course opened for the season on Saturday, May 23rd, a wedding and graduation in Illinois last weekend delayed my first shoot of the course.

I had the pleasure of shooting tonight with Club President, David Kesar, and Julie Towner, Vice President & "Under Treasurer". The evening was picture perfect at 5 pm with warm sun and crisp air. As we rode the course from station to station, I was reminded again of how beautiful our clays course truly is as it meanders through the woods. With no two stations alike, we are spoiled to call this our 'home' Club.

I hope the photos provide a glimpse of the beauty of our 14 Station course. My compliments to Stephen Trudeau and Ben Fisher for all their work setting a fun and challenging course.

If you haven't shot the course yet this season, you are in for a real treat. And for all you rabbit hunters - you're in for something special at Station 10.

Emmet Clay Sports will be presenting the MEMBER ORIENTATION Course on Saturday 5/30 & 6/5, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

ALL NEW 2026 Members are required to take the course if they intend to shoot during closed hours.

All members are welcome to attend as a refresher on Club Rules, Firearm Safety Rules, Shooting Etiquette, TargetTag and Controller Operation, Carts, and after hour access and procedures.

Priority will be given to new members desiring to complete the course.
