On Saturday, June 10, 2023, MassBike and coalition partners will host the second annual Kittie Knox Ride! This community bike ride around Boston, Cambridge, Watertown, and Waltham features the history of Katherine “Kittie” Knox, a bi-racial woman cyclist and barrier-breaker in the 1890s.

Riders will learn about Kittie as a bicycling pioneer and we’ll ride and reflect on issues we’re facing today in terms of racial and gender representation in bicycling and advocacy. A historical site summary will be provided for this ride by NECCD (New England Cycling Coalition for Diversity).

This is a free event, but donations to The Kittie Knox Plays are encouraged. We're working with Plays in Place to bring Kittie's story to life in a series of one-act plays, creating a vehicle for multi-racial school, college, and community theater groups, along with bicycling clubs, to stage theatrical performances which reflect on the history of race and gender around the topic of bicycling. The Kittie Knox Ride will enable us to kick-start our fundraising campaign for this effort.

MassBike is Massachusett's Statewide Bicycle Advocacy Group. Our Mission is to Improve Bicycling Across the State Through Legislation, Education & Outreach.

The Quabbin Tour is coming up. We will run a SAG vehicle…it’s the white Subaru with 4 bike racks. I plan on having a stop at the convenience store in 202 and possibly 1 or 2 additional stops. This year we will go into the town of Petersham for a stop at the General Store overlooking the common after the stop on 202. The worst climb really is the “Monster” toward the beginning of the ride. Once you made it, then you are home free.

The route is slightly different from the prior years; each year features a bit of variation. Expect this to be 4 hours on the saddle. We want to go at a reasonable pace. Steady wins the war. Zippy doesn’t make up the final climb. The last climb will be onto the observation road for the Tower overlooking the Quabbin.

During the Labor Day Weekend, our friend, Daniel "Dan" McCabe, was injured. Dan had finished the third stage of the Green Mountain Stage Race - the toughest bicycle race of the year within New England - and was riding back to the hotel with the junior racers. Dan has provided a lot of coaching, mentoring and support for local high school athletes in bicycling and other sports.

On the Sunday, while riding with the juniors after the end, Dan crashed his bike on the Appalachian Gap in Vermont.
