New England Seidokan Okinawan Karate

New England Seidokan Okinawan Karate New England Okinawan Seidokan is a traditional Okinawan karate dojo. In Japanese Seidokan means "a house of the correct or proper way." Corricelli.

Many Karate styles and sub-styles on Okinawa are actually composites of older styles. Among these is Seidokan Karate. Founded by Sensei Shian Toma, the style came into existence in 1968 when Toma called his dojo "Seidokan," meaning the "a house of the correct or proper way." In 1974, the Zen Okinawa Seidokan Karate Kobudo Renmei was formed to better serve its growing number of dedicated practition

ers throughout the world. The style's core is Shorin-ryu with influences from Motobu-Ryu, Okinawa Kenpo, and Goju-Ryu. Seidokan is a traditional Okinawan fighting (Kumite) art that includes kicking, punching and blocking techniques; throwing and joint-locking techniques (Toide); and the traditional weaponry of Okinawa (Kobudo). It is an extremely flexible and versatile system, requiring dedicated, open-minded students with a desire to develop strength, endurance, flexibility, dexterity and personal character. New England Seidokan is instructed under the guidance of Rokudan Mike Wysocki and led by Sandan Lloyd L. Sensei Corricelli has studied the martial arts for thirty-five years. He studied in Okinawa and is a first generation black belt under Seidokan founder Shian Toma. He has also trained in Chinese Kenpo, Jiu Jitsu and fought full contact in college. As a Special Agent in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, he received additional training in self-defense and techniques to disable opponents. Classes are currently taught at the Hanscom Air Force Base Health & Fitness Center.

Hello, karate warriors. I hope you and your families are staying healthy and strong in these difficult times. I wish I had some good news about when we will be able to resume our training but at this point, there’s not even a projection I can pass along.

Keep training and we’ll resume when it’s safe again.

While we’re still in social distancing mode, is anyone interested in doing a Zoom class Monday at 5:00 PM. I’m thinking at least some stretching and at least kihon. Not sure how we’d do kata or toide. 🤔

If you’re in, send me a message and I’ll provide the meeting code.

Hello, New England Seidokan warriors. I hope you are all heathy and safe. This current crisis may go on for a while, so I ask you please to take care of your body and your mind.

To that end, please keep training. The famous Okinawan Sensei Gichin Funakoshi once said that karate is like pushing a cart up a hill. If you stop pushing, the cart rolls back down the hill.

I look forward to seeing all of you healthy and strong when this is over.

Sensei Lloyd
