The beloved Hanover Christmas Mystery— a holiday tradition that has delighted our community for more than a century— will no longer be performed. Started by the ladies of the Church of Christ in 1917, very little changed since the first presentation. The Mystery has been more than a theatrical production; it has been an ongoing testament to our community’s history, creativity, and communal spirit.
Despite the years of generosity of the community, of the volunteers who ran the program, and of Dartmouth, which donated the use of Rollins Chapel and their resources, the Christmas Mystery is no longer sustainable. Several efforts have been made to revive the Mystery; however, waning community interest and increasing costs have compelled the decision to retire the production.
We gratefully thank the many who supported the Mystery over the years through volunteering, watching their children participate, and attending this timeless tradition. For those who will miss the Christmas Mystery, please celebrate its legacy in a moment of gratitude and reflection, and cherish the memories while recognizing that the time has come for it to rest.
Sincerely,
Pam Holbrook
