Confidence is a skill.

This week we welcomed a fantastic group of women to Gracie Barra Hannibal for a self-defense workshop focused on awareness, prevention, and practical techniques.

Our goal isn't to make people fearful—it's to help them feel more confident, capable, and prepared.

Through discussion, hands-on training, and real-world scenarios, participants learned simple concepts that can help them stay safer while building confidence in themselves and their abilities.

Self-defense isn't about winning a fight.

It's about recognizing danger, setting boundaries, making good decisions, and having the confidence to take action when needed.

Thank you to everyone who attended. The energy, questions, and willingness to learn made for an outstanding evening on the mats. We enjoyed having you at the school and look forward to future opportunities to train together.

Last week we had the opportunity to spend time with the Hannibal Elementary Summer School students discussing bullying, confidence, and self-defense.

One of the most important lessons we share is that bullies are not bad people. They are people who made a bad decision. We've all had bad days, and any of us can make poor choices when we're frustrated, angry, or seeking attention.

Many repeat bullies are what we call "attention hungry monsters." They aren't getting attention from positive choices, so they look for it in negative ways instead.

That's why our focus isn't on creating more conflict. It's on teaching children how to recognize bullying, stay calm, set boundaries, seek help when needed, and protect themselves if a situation becomes physical.

Thank you to Hannibal Elementary Summer School for inviting us to spend part of our day with these amazing students. We had a great time and hope they left with a little more confidence than they had when we arrived.

One of the things we love most about Gracie Barra Kids is that every student gets personal attention.

Some days that means learning a brand-new technique. Some days it means fixing a small detail that makes a big difference. Sometimes it means asking questions, trying again, and building confidence one step at a time.

Our goal isn't just to teach Jiu-Jitsu. It's to help every student grow through the process of learning, problem-solving, and overcoming challenges.

The techniques matter, but the lessons learned along the way matter even more.

Congratulations to Leanna, Jackson, and Easton on earning their new belts today!

Promotions are about much more than a new belt. They represent months of hard work, consistent attendance, improving technique, overcoming challenges, and demonstrating the values we expect on and off the mats.

We're proud of the effort these students have put into their training and excited to see what comes next in their jiu-jitsu journey.

🥋 Yesterday we had the pleasure of welcoming the young ladies from Kids in Motion to Gracie Barra Hannibal for a fun self-defense class!

Throughout the class, we talked about confidence, awareness, and how to handle difficult situations safely. We also introduced some basic self-defense concepts and showed how Jiu-Jitsu can help build confidence, discipline, and resilience both on and off the mats.

Most importantly, we had a lot of fun learning together!

A huge thank you to Kids in Motion for spending part of their day with us. The girls did an outstanding job, asked great questions, and brought a fantastic attitude to the mat.

We hope to see you all again soon! ❤️🥋
