After a season of neglect, I have finally computed the standings for the 2023-24 WW season, and a familiar name has crept to the top. Greg Johnson is the current points leader, however there are at least 3 bowlers within reach, if Greg should stumble in the last week. The current point standings are below!

1. Greg Johnson 234
2. Norm Gifford 223
3. Scott Phillips 217
4. Ken Hof 210
5. Mike Yeagle 197
6. John Scoone 195
7. Larry Bollinger 193
8. Rick Riley 186
9. Monica Emge 172
10. Barry Smith 166
11. Colleen David 161
12. Bob Dorr 157
13. Dave Richardson 149
14. Theresa Huntington 144
15. Tony Bubczyk 136
16. Traci Wheatley 134
17. Kristen Armacost 133
18. Vicki Hineline 128

These are the bowlers that qualify for end of season prizes. The survivor with the highest POA will receive 10 points, then 8,7,6 and 5 if there are 5 or more survivors. The highest POA for the set will receive 10 points, and the highest POA for each game will receive 5 points. The top 5 will receive $50,40,30,20 and $10.

The POA for week 35 will be added to the final scores for each bowler. The top bowler after POA is calculated will receive a $25 bonus, and will be declared the overall champion!

Good luck to all bowlers!

OK it's that time again! Welcome back to bowling and the Wednesday Waffle, but first congratulations to last years winners Greg Johnson and Jeremy Brown. Greg was the regular season points winner, with Jeremy finishing second, however in the last week of bowling, Jeremy bowled an awesome 450 scratch set to become the overall points winner!

I have completely changed the WW this season. There will no longer be a weekly rollover. You will bowl three games against your average, and prizes will be awarded based on pins over average (POA), for each game and for the set. The prize for high POA each game is $10, and $20 for the set. If there is a tie, the money will be split.

There will also be a "Survivor Pool", consisting of bowlers who beat their average all three games that night. The Survivor Pool prize money is all money collected over $50, and will be distributed among all bowlers who beat their average all three games. The bowler with the highest POA in the survivor pool wins the most money, with the others receiving lesser amounts. If only one bowler beats their average, they win the entire Survivor Pool, which was $65 last week. Normally there are 2-3 bowlers who beat their average every game, but sometimes there is only one, and occasionally there are more than four, but everyone who beats their average all three games is guaranteed to at least get their entry fee back ($5).

I will try to post a complete set of rules in the coming days, but on to last week's action.

Bob Dorr was the overall winner. He won first place in the Survivor Pool, and also had the highest POA overall. He also had the highest POA for the 2nd game. Bob won $56. Next was Wayne Nonemaker. Wayne had the highest POA for games 1 and 2, and was also 2nd place in the Survivor Pool. Grant Stickel was 3rd in Survivor, and won $13. Tony Bubczyk was 4th, and won $6. There were four Survivors this week.

Many of you may be curious as to why I changed the format. The reasons are as follows:

1. Larger prizes. This format makes it possible for bowlers to have larger payouts. Last year, the top prize was only $35 for first place, and that was dropped to $25 near the end of the season, due to lack of bowlers.

2. Bowlers are rewarded on the night they bowl their best. There were too many times where someone had a great set, got the top seed, and lost the first game, and wound up with almost nothing. This season, the top POA is guaranteed at least $20, and will usually collect a lot more. There will be nights where someone will walk out with close to $100, and maybe more than that.

3. Absences. Last season, there were too many bowlers who qualified, only to miss the following week. With the possible return of Covid, this is more important than ever. If you're not feeling well, you shouldn't bowl, or feel obligated to bowl due to a possibility of missing out on prizes.

4. Same night payouts. If you're patient, and wait for everyone to finish bowling, you can be paid on the same night, however you always have the option to wait until the following week.

It isn't much (yet), but here is a spreadsheet of the scores and results of last week's bowling.

As always, good luck to all bowlers tonight!

Ok, we're down to the last week of bowling, and last week Johnny Waffle was the proverbial fly in the ointment, winning his second tourney of the season by defeating Jeremy Brown with a stunning 173 scratch game. Sorry Jeremy, luck was on my side. Second place is nothing to be ashamed of, particularly because Jeremy moves into 2nd place behind Greg Johnson in the overall standings after several weeks of outstanding bowling. In the consolation match, Grant Stickel narrowly defeated Kristen Armacost with a very good 165 scratch game.

Johnny Waffle (Scoone) was the high qualifier for the final week, thanks mostly to that 173 game. Waffle will face Tony Bubczyk in the first round. Points leader Greg Johnson will square off against Steve Jordan, who despite bowling consistently well all season is still looking for his first Waffle tournament victory. Bob Dorr was able to capture third place, and will battle Grant Stickel, and finally it's a girl-on-girl matchup between fourth place qualifier Traci Wheatley and Kristen Armacost.

In the points race, Greg Johnson has clinched the regular season championship with a strong week 34 performance where he qualified 2nd. Jeremy Brown climbed through the ranks the past few weeks to finish 2nd, and Vicki Hineline has clinched 3rd place. The rest of the top ten has not been finalized, but Samantha Schreibman, Colleen David are currently 4th and 5th, and are guaranteed to finish in the top ten. Steve Jordan ( #6), Kristen Armacost ( #8) and Tony Bubczyk ( #9) qualified for the final week, and are also guaranteed to finish somewhere in the top 10. Norm Gifford is currently seventh, and will likely drop a couple places, but can finish no worse than tenth. Finally, Tommy Wisner, currently ranked tenth, cannot improve on that position, but will lose it if the Waffle finished 3rd or higher this week.

The final points standings and overall champion will be determined by adding the total points earned this season to the POA in the final week, so it's conceivable that anyone could overtake Greg and grab the championship, however he does have at least a 35 point lead over the nearest competitor. Does anyone have it in them to have an epic performance and steal the crown? We'll find out tonight

Good luck to all bowlers tonight!

Last week, Jeremy Brown won his second Waffle tournament of the season, easily beating Vicki Hineline, who bowled a good game herself, with a fantastic 169 scratch game. Jeremy has vaulted into third place in the overall standings, and not only that, but he was high qualifier for the week. Going into the finals, Jeremy now has the best chance to overtake Greg Johnson for the regular season points championship. In the consolation match, Johnny Waffle defeated Samantha Schreibman to take third place, even though both bowled very well in that game.

This week, Jeremy Brown will bowl Dave Richardson in the first round. Norm Gifford will take on Grant Stickel, John Scoone draws his birthday buddy Ed Sible, and finally Kristen Armacost will face Vicki Hineline.

Greg Johnson is still in command in the points race, but a strong performance by either Jeremy Brown or Vicki Hineline could overtake Greg. Everyone else is fighting for position going into the final week.

Last week, Barry Smith defeated Rick Riley to win his second Waffle tournament of the season. Barry was also our high qualifier for this week. Scott Phillips beat out Rick Riley for third place in the consolation game.

Barry Smith, who was last week's big winner, was our high qualifier, and will face Johnny Waffle in the first round. Jeremy Brown qualified a respectable second, and will bowl Kristen Armacost. Steve Jordan qualified third, and will battle Vicki Hineline. Finally, Sam Schreibman qualified fourth, and will go up against Monica Emge.

Greg Johnson is still our points leader, but the lead keeps shrinking every week. Can anyone catch Greg? Most likely not, but they could dethrone him in the final week. Get as many points as you can in the next two weeks. We're almost at the finish line!

Good luck to all bowlers tonight!

This post is for last week which didn't go through because I hit the wrong button.

In Week 31 Larry Bollinger defeated Tommy Wisner to win his third Waffle of the season. In the consolation round, Vicki Hineline defeated Rick Riley.

Greg Johnson still has a comfortable lead in the overall standings, but the pelloton is getting closer every week.

Last week's scores and brackets for this week to follow.

Last week it was "The Gipper", Norm Gifford who defeated Colleen David (in absentia) to win his second Waffle tournament of the season. With the win, Norm moves into the top ten! Ed Sible defeated Jeremy Brown to finish third.

Norm not only won last week, but he was high qualifier! He will face Tommy Wisner in the first round. Larry Bollinger was a close second, with a fantastic 180 scratch game, and will battle Grant Stickel. Kristen Armacost continued a streak of excellent bowling, finishing third, and will bowl Frank Schreibman, and finally, Tony Bubczyk finished fourth, and will compete against teammate Steve Jordan.

Greg Johnson continues to lead the points race, but his lead continues to shrink . Colleen David and Frank Schreibman are currently tied for second, with Samantha Schreibman in fourth, and Vicki Hineline in fifth. Wow, the women are well represented in the top five!

Good luck to all bowlers tonight!

GIRLS RULE! Last week Vicki Hineline defeated Kristen Armacost to win not her first, but her second Waffle tournament of the season. This moves her up into fourth place in the overall standings. Norm Gifford, who has been bowling well lately, had to settle for third place, defeating Dave Richardson in the consolation match.

It was GIRL POWER again last week, as Colleen David was the high qualifier. She will face off against another female opponent, Theresa Huntington in the first round. Frank Schreibman, currently third in the points race behind daughter Sam, qualified second, and will battle Ed Sible of Sible Masonry. Norm Gifford turned in another solid performance, and will bowl Scott Phillips, and finally, Rick Riley, powered by a fine 169 scratch game, will will duel Jeremy Brown.

Greg Johnson continues to lead the points race by a wide margin, but his lead is shrinking. Can anyone catch this juggernaut? Did he peak too soon? We'll find out in a few weeks.

For those who are wondering, the rules are as follows:

1. For qualifying, the handicap is 90% of 150 - average for the first four positions, and pins over average (for positions 5-8). Tiebreakers are total pinfall for the three games.

2. Eight bowlers qualify each week, regardless of the number of entries. The handicap is 90% of 150 - average. The competition is head to head, with the higher seed winning all ties, so there are no rolloffs. Bowlers are re-seeded after each round, with the highest remaining seed bowling the lowest, and so on.

3. Prizes are as follows:

1st - $35 paid immediately
2nd - $20 paid immediately
3rd - $15 paid immediately
4th - $10 paid immediately
5th - $5 deducted from entry fee the following week (or paid in cash if bowler qualifies)
6th - $3 same as 5th
7th - $2 same as 5th
8th - $0

High qualifier $5 bonus.

All qualifiers receive a free entry for that week, which means that 27 bowlers is the break even point. Currently, there are 24 bowlers who regularly bowl in the tournament. Unfortunately several bowlers have dropped out. so the tournament is running a deficit this season. Next season, only a $25 prize will be guaranteed, but will increase by $5 for every entry over 25.

Bowlers accumulate points toward the end of the season. For the last week, a bowler is awarded on point for every pin over their average, so anything can and has happened in years past. That's why it's important to make it every week you can, and bowl your best, however only the top 30 weeks are counted, so that bowlers may miss up to four weeks with no penalty.

One point is awarded for entry, one for each games where a bowler attains 90% of his/her average, and one for each game hitting his/her average. Another point is awarded for hitting 90% of a bowler's average for set, and an additional point for hitting average for the set. Another point is also awarded for hitting average all three games.

Additionally, bowlers receive points for qualifying. Top qualifier earns 5 points, 2nd earns 4, 3rd earns 3, 4th earns 2, and 5th-8th earns 1. Finally, the winner each week receives 10 pts, 2nd 8, 3rd 6, then it's 5 4 3 2 1. This is how the points leaders are determined.

Last week it was Tony Bubczyk who defeated Dave Richardson to win his second tournament this season. With the win, Tony moves into the top 10 at #8. Norm Gifford defeated high qualifier Ken Hof to capture 3rd place.

Monica Emge was our high qualifier, on the strength of a superlative 152 game, and will face last week's runner up Dave Richardson. Steve Jordan finished second, and will bowl against Vicki Hineline, who turned in another solid performance. Jeremy Brown qualified third, and will do battle against Norm Gifford, who has been bowling very well as of late. Finally, Kristen Armacost will go up against last week's champ Tony Bubczyk.

Greg Johnson continues to lead the pack, but his lead is shrinking. Samantha Schreibman is currently second, followed closely by her father Frank. Colleen David is fourth, and Steve Jordan is tied with Ken Hof for fifth place. The top ten is within easy reach of all bowlers, as the season winds down in the next few weeks.

Last week, it was Norm Gifford who bested the competition, defeating teammate Kristen Armacost to capture his first victory of the season. Samantha Schreibman defeated Colleen David to finish third, and also move into 2nd place in the point standings.

Ken Hof was high qualifier last week, and will battle last week's champ Norm Gifford in the first round in a grudge match that has many complications. Dave Richardson will face Samantha Schreibman, while Frank Schreibman goes up against Tony Bubczyk. Finally, Barry Smith will compete against Ed Sible.

Greg Johnson still has a huge lead in the points race, however Sam Schreibman has pulled into second place. Colleen David is currently third, tied with Frank Schreibman, and Steve Jordan rounds out the top five.

Colleen was also the high qualifier for the week, and will duel Larry Bollinger in the first round. Dave Richardson qualifies second, and will face Kristen Armacost. Frank Schreibman will match up against last week's runner-up Norm Gifford, and finally, last week's champ Sam Schreibman will battle Vicki Hineline.

Good luck as always to all bowlers tonight!
