Angler Sets New State Record with Massive Musky in West Virginia

On Saturday, March 19, Lucas King of Burnsville, West Virginia, achieved a remarkable milestone by catching and releasing a record-breaking muskellunge (musky). Fishing from the bank of the Little Kanawha River at a public access site managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR), King reeled in the giant fish near the tailwater section of Burnsville Dam in Braxton County. He used a 6-inch glide bait to secure the catch.

The musky measured an astonishing 55.0625 inches in length and weighed 51 pounds, setting a new state record for both size and weight. King’s trophy fish surpassed the previous length record of 54.0625 inches, set by Chase Gibson in 2023, and eclipsed the weight record of 49.75 pounds, previously held by Anna Marsh.

This extraordinary catch highlights the thriving fishery resources of West Virginia and adds another chapter to the state’s angling legacy.
