To the biomechanically literate coach, it’s evident that the pelvis is rotating posteriorly around fixed femurs, maintaining hip flexion rather than producing extension.

For the biomechanically informed reader, this motion represents pelvic rotation relative to a fixed femur, not true femur-on-pelvis extension.

For the biomechanically aware practitioner, this pattern reveals that posterior pelvic tilt during a hip thrust does not constitute hip extension — it’s a compensatory motion linked to the limits of hip flexion.

Your pelvis (The bone structure that connects your spine to your legs) IS rolling backward.
your thigh bones ARENT moving backward.

That rolling motion is called a posterior pelvic tilt, and it usually happens when your hips are already bent
(THE START OF A HIP THRUST) and can’t bend much more.
-When you sit
-BOTTOM OF A SQUAT (BUTT WINK)

So instead of your hips truly extending, your pelvis is just tucking under to finish the movement.
This is the same type of motion your body does when you go from standing to sitting — your pelvis rolls back to help you bend more.

In other words:
The hip thrust doesn’t make your hips extend (femurs move posteriorly) — it makes your pelvis roll backward, which actually keeps you in a HIP flexed position.

posterior pelvic tilts is at the top of the hip thrust— YES,
BY STARTING IT AT the bottom and completING it at the top of the hip thrust

That’s why mechanically and scientifically the hip thrust is a pelvic movement, not a true hip extension movement
