If you were at Hop Dogma last night (Thurs 2/12), then you know what I’m talking about: Good Times, Good Beer (thanks Carlo!), Good Food (thanks Just Eatz!), and pretty darn Good Co****le!! 28 players (Thanks everybody for playing and making Thursdays on the COAST a FUN night!), multiple spectators, and a bunch of new/non-regular players. And on that “note” Greg “RexKwondo” Cooper and Mike “Resinlips” (actually don’t know your last name Mike), who are 2 “established” co****le players (they’ve been playing for awhile) from the Monterey Bay area joined in last night and did really well. I’m sure Greg and Mike’s “com-padres” were rooting them on last night as we do when HMB Co****le Baggers play at the Plex in San Jose.

After 4 qualifying rounds the 28 players were seeded, and we “flipped” the seeding to DPR which made for a very competitive elimination bracket, below are the podium teams, AND Kudos to Nico “SpiceyMeatball” Andreini for winning the HUGE pot in our halftime game (Knockout)!!

1st Place: Mike “Resinlips” and Tommy “Rice Trucking” Rice

2nd Place: Greg “RexKwonDo” Cooper and Rainbow Desilva

3rd Place: Jim Deeney and Mike “KokaneeMike” Premenko

As the saying goes “Variety is the Spice of Life” and at HMB Co****le we “rotate” between Switcholio and Split-Switch in our weekly tournaments (most of the nearby clubs just play Split Switch every week). There’s an “opportunity” to SandBag in Switcholio, but we (HMB Co****le) negate that with a Coin-flip and a Dice Roll! And “by the way” we had 32 players last night (Thurs 1/29), so far a record at our new venue “HOP DOGMA”!! So, at the end of the 4 qualifying rounds Mr Jim Deeney was sitting at the top with a 9.29 PPR! (Excellent throwing Jimmy!), BUT the COIN FLIP was TAILS, so seeding “SWITCHED” to DPR (Differential Points Per Round) and, guess what, I was the #1 seed! and Mr Deeney dropped to the 4th seed, basically everything changed with the seeding and we had a very cool “eclectic” (Look that up DJ!) pairing in our elimination round! Usually the #1 seed and their partner are the team to beat in the elimination bracket, but unfortunately for me and my partner, last night was an “anomaly”!! So much fun last night with 32 Co****le Players and I’m guessing 15-20 “Painters” (Hop Dogma had a “Painting Night” also)!! Thanks to Jimmy Donavan (ONE of the three (3 D’s in 3D Co****le!!) (Dexter, Donavan, Deeney) and Joakim “Ocean Element” Bye AND “Micheal” (Never knew your name was Michael) De “HOCKEY” Meo, and Dave and Aaron Pringle for showing up and playing!! 32 players “meant” $320 was to be split up between the podium teams, and they were:

1st place: Eddie “Big E” Mendes and Coltin “ I’ve never seen you smile so much” Doak

2nd place: Joe “Just Joe” Vasquez and Yahir “CHILL GUY” Cantolan

3rd place: Jim Glafkides and Mike “KokaneeMike”Premenko

Sorry Damien “D Wizz” that we did not play our halftime game, but with 32 players we were way behind on time to do that (Plus, if you would DO 1 “RAP” Mr. D Wizzacal” HMB Co****le will play multiple “halftime games”!)

Fun evening throwing bags at Hop Dogma yesterday evening. I’m biased, but 4 hours of semi-serious/goofy amusing competition while drinking great beer, eating good food (and watching football in between rounds) for $10 on a Thursday night on the coast can’t be beat!! Hoping we can “reel in” more coastsiders to come and play!! Thanks again Hop Dogma for hosting (great venue!), and great bar-tending Carlo!, and thanks Lamas for providing the tasty food on-site! Now to the competition/results:

As the great Dennis Pintarelli says: “You Gotta Believe”, and miraculously that happened for me in our “halftime” Knockout game and I (“Buy Back In Irish Sandbagger”) won the $5 entry fee from all the players who were KNOCKED OUT! (Thanks Dennis!) And after 4 qualifying rounds, the top three players were Jim Deeney, Joe Vasquez, and Eddie Mendes, but once the elimination rounds were completed (a different “animal” from the round robin/qualifying rounds) the top three podium teams/money winners were:

1st place: Eddie “Big E” Mendes and David Rossi

2nd place: Bobby “12 Gauge” Boyajian and Stephen “Leave your Daughters Pants at Hop Dogma” Heath

3rd Place: Tommy “ Rice Trucking” Rice and Nico “Spicy Meatball” Andreini

We are playing NEW YEARS CO****LE at 3pm on Jan 1, 2026 at Hop Dogma! So, come on down and throw some bags, watch football, and drink award winning beer!

It’s with heavy heart that I write this week’s tournament recap. Sadly, our home for the past two and a half years, 🌊Blue Ocean Brewing🍺will be pouring its last beers this Sunday and hence Thursday night was our final night at this location. 😞 On behalf of the entire club, we are very grateful to Tom McGuirk, Rob Carpenter and Eddy Kalem for allowing us to use the Boardroom for our weekly tournaments. A huge thank you to our amazing bartender, Lauren Barmore who has kept the taps running with a smile all these years and made sure we had food trucks to feed everyone tasty food. Tom Richards and I have had a great time running tournaments there and your hospitality has made each week a blast. 🙏 But this is not the end of the road for us. After the holiday break, we will pick up just down the road at Hop Dogma. Details to come. Thank you to all who came out to celebrate with us for our final night at BOB. It was a festive group of 29 made up of surly regulars and a few new faces with a record broken and a great time had by all. It was a crazy final bracket with the coin flip of DPR followed by a dice roll of Cornelius! 🤪

Dang it’s cold on the coast! 🥶 But that didn’t stop us from having a great time this evening drinking craft brew, devouring tasty chicken sandos from Just Eatz while throwing and talking smack.
