The Half Moon Bay Cougars delivered another thrilling performance Thursday night, defeating Sanger West 56–54 at home in the NorCal Quarterfinals. In a game that stayed tight from start to finish, both teams traded baskets and momentum throughout the night, keeping the crowd on edge until the final buzzer.

Senior Gio Garduno-Martin led the Cougars with a standout performance, scoring 31 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. Garduno-Martin consistently came through in key moments, helping Half Moon Bay maintain their composure during several crucial stretches of the game.

Senior Owen Perez also made a major impact, recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Perez controlled the boards and provided important second-chance opportunities while helping anchor the Cougars’ defense.

Half Moon Bay faced challenges throughout the game, committing several turnovers that allowed Sanger West to stay within striking distance. Despite the miscues, the Cougars’ energy and relentless persistence kept them battling possession after possession.

In the end, that determination proved to be the difference as Half Moon Bay held on for the hard-fought 56–54 victory.

With the win, the Cougars advance to the NorCal Semifinals where they will host Marysville this Saturday at 7 p.m. at Half Moon Bay High School. The team will look to tighten up their ex*****on as they prepare for another high-stakes matchup with a trip to the NorCal Finals on the line.

The gym was electric Tuesday night as Half Moon Bay High School hosted University Preparatory School in Round 1 of the NorCal playoffs. In a fast-paced, high-energy battle from start to finish, the Cougars defended their home court with a thrilling 64–61 victory.

The Cougars fell behind quickly in the first quarter, but feeding off the home crowd’s intensity they began to make a comeback in the second quarter, pushing the tempo and attacking the rim. University Prep answered with timely outside shooting to keep the game tight heading into halftime. But the Cougars pulled ahead in the third quarter, and worked hard to keep their lead. The final minutes were packed with tension. With the score within one possession in the closing seconds, the Cougars were able to hold University Prep and take the win.

Junior Levi Meighan delivered a standout performance, leading Half Moon Bay with 24 points, providing clutch buckets when the Cougars needed them most. Senior Owen Perez added an important 19 points.

With the victory, Half Moon Bay advances to Round 2 of the NorCal playoffs. The Cougars will return home this Thursday at 7 p.m. to face Sanger West High School, looking to carry their momentum into another high-stakes matchup.

With a roaring home crowd behind them, Half Moon Bay delivered a dominant performance in the CCS semi-finals, powering past Menlo School with an emphatic 83–59 victory. The Cougars set the tone early and never let up, playing with extraordinary effort from start to finish. Their unselfish style, chemistry, and trust built over many years of competing together were on full display as they controlled the pace and executed on both ends of the floor.

Senior Gio Garduno-Martin led the charge with an electrifying 30-point performance, stepping up in key moments and knocking down big shots when the Cougars needed them most. Senior Owen Perez was a force in the paint, demonstrating tremendous strength and presence inside as he poured in 26 points and grabbed an impressive 15 rebounds. His dominance on the boards provided critical second-chance opportunities and limited Menlo’s looks down the stretch.

Senior Daniel Moctezuma contributed 13 important points, while junior Levi Meighan added 10, helping balance the offensive attack. But beyond the stat sheet, the impact was clearly spread across the entire roster. From tough defense and hustle plays to smart passes and timely stops, it was a complete team effort that propelled the Cougars to victory.

With the win, Half Moon Bay advances to the CCS Championship, where they will face Sacred Heart Prep on Saturday (location and time TBD). The Cougars carry with them the grit, unity, and belief that have fueled their remarkable season as they prepare for the next challenge.

The Half Moon Bay Cougars delivered a statement performance Tuesday night, defeating Jefferson 64–37 in the CCS quarterfinals on their home floor.

Senior Owen Perez led the charge with a dominant all-around effort, pouring in 20 points while grabbing 6 rebounds. Fellow senior Gio Garduno-Martin added 15 points and 8 rebounds, making his presence felt on both ends of the court. Senior Daniel Moctezuma and junior Levi Meighan each chipped in 9 points, helping the Cougars maintain their momentum throughout the game.

With the outcome firmly in hand in the fourth quarter, senior Maverick Johnson and sophomore Jared Solis provided a spark off the bench. Each knocked down an impressive three-pointer that brought the home crowd to its feet and put an exclamation point on the night.

With the 64–37 victory, the Cougars advance to the CCS semifinals and will face Menlo School at home on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. With their balanced scoring, strong defense, and electric home atmosphere, Half Moon Bay looks ready for the challenge ahead.
