Half Moon Bay is putting on a show right now. These are Velella velella — “by-the-wind sailors.” Not jellyfish. Each one has a tiny sail that lets it drift thousands of miles across the open Pacific.

When spring winds shift toward shore, millions of them beach at once. We’re currently in a Pacific marine heat wave with El Niño building. Scientists say that’s making events like this bigger and more frequent. The ocean is trying to tell us something. Safe for humans. Keep dogs away — it’ll wreck their stomach.

Get down to the coast this week before they’re gone. And if you want to experience HMB the way it’s meant to be — from the water — come surf with us.

Dropped by last week and caught up with Erik while he was pulling the last prints on our new Tommy Tsunami hoodies.

We talked story for a while — how Black Stamp got started, what pulls him to the coast as a creative, and why Princeton-by-the-Sea is quietly becoming one of the more interesting little pockets on the Peninsula right now. New businesses moving in, the harbor evolving, good energy.

Behind every design is a story.

For the past 6 years, Eric Kneeland () has been the artist behind our Tommy Tsunami designs — including this newest hoodie drop.

Eric is a local artist and screen printer based in Princeton-by-the-Sea who’s become more than just someone we work with… he’s become a great friend.
