Here’s a Pipe Shooter I shaped for Randall Paulson at 7’3 x 18.5 x 2.62. Having a curvy pintail outline really helps the board fit into that type of wave, and hold in at the same time. I was able to expand my previous Pipe board knowledge from working with in the ‘80’s, but also from working with Derek Ho, and Jon Damn and other teamriders I was blessed to work with as well. I have always loved shaping racy boards.

Here’s a racy 6’0 x 20.75 x 2.9 early 70’s San Diego Fish, shaped from a Clark Foam blank I had saved from 2005 for my friend, Rusty Setzer. It was glassed by Jack Reeves with tangerine orange tint bottom with ice blue tint deck, with black glass on keels.

This young surfer ended up buying this 6’4 ‘77 single fin at at the Outrigger store.
The customer said the original board was a board his Dad rode in his teen/college days, but eventually sold it. Evidently, the Dad always regretted it and never saw another Pat Rawson Local Motion board like it ever again. This glassed by Jack Reeves PR4LM board his son bought for his dad as a gift is almost identical to it! I love the story!

I was recently cleaning out our storage room,
and I found this 7’5 x 18.5 x 2.5 classic I made for my son for Sunset Beach around 1998 or thereabouts. We did a cool quiver of Ralph Eeni airbrushed board’s like this one and called them the Fred Flintstone series.

A.K.A. Marty Thomas airing at Rocky Point lefts in 1987. He was voted rookie of the year that year and one of my top team riders. We really experimented extensively with his small wave boards and they were mainly Sting Swallowtails with double barrel concaves running out the swallow tips.

I normally build Lightning Bolts with resin tints, and resin Bolts, but this era was popular with airbrushing and printed logo Bolts.

I shaped this Lightning Bolt 8’0 x 20 x 3.1 Pipe single fin last month in California.
The 3 stringer 85A with 1/4” dark wood really brings out the yellow resin tint. Here it is at getting the bottom glossed and then to finally be polished. Photo by Craig Hollingsworth
