“I’m too old to build muscle or get stronger.”
We’ve all heard it. Maybe you’ve even said it yourself.
Well, at 70 years young, Ellie just got her first unassisted strict pull-up…
Actually, make that three unassisted strict pull-ups.
No bands. No assistance. Just Ellie and the bar.
But this story isn’t really about pull-ups.
It’s about more than four years of showing up. More than four years of training consistently, embracing challenges, and trusting the process. No shortcuts. No magic formula. Just thousands of small decisions repeated over and over again.
That’s because goals, by themselves, are fleeting. You reach them, enjoy the moment, and before long you’re looking toward the next challenge.
What endures is the person you become along the way.
Ellie didn’t spend the last four-plus years chasing pull-ups. She spent them becoming stronger, healthier, and more capable. The pull-ups were simply the byproduct.
That’s the lesson.
Don’t become obsessed with the destination. Learn to enjoy the work. Learn to appreciate the daily habits, the small victories, and the process of becoming.
Give yourself enough time, and amazing things can happen.
Congratulations, Ellie. Three strict pull-ups at 70 years young is an incredible accomplishment, but the example you’ve set for everyone around you may be even more inspiring.
Age isn’t what limits us; it’s what we allowed to go on between our ears that keeps us down or propels us forward. You can change the way that you walk (or run) through life.
Consistency changes things.
