Good read. I prefer hand held, as the weapon mounted light on a handgun limits your holster selection. FBI or Harries techniques seem to work well. The latter allows for additional gun support.

Good suggestions. Getting training from a certified instructor is very important. Training with a purpose is additionally important. I see so many new gun owners at the range working off the bench shooting at a static target. Get a holster set up, a magazine carrier and seek professional training.

I am glad to see at least one other instructor is sold on the act of breaking down your draw stroke into micro segments. I teach the draw stroke in 4 steps. Each step is practiced until its perfect and then the next step is added. I put each step on a timer to learn what step is lacking an needs improvement.
Take this further and break down your reloads and malfunction clearances in the same manner.

The importance of a correct draw during a defensive encounter cannot be overstated. It is at this point in the scenario when you're supposed to establish your all-important combat grip. And as we all hopefully know by now, having this proper grip means the difference between accurate follow up shots...
