Star proclaimed Abilities Advocacy Month for the third year in a row! Tommy, who has done everything at our center from riding to groundwork and helping with barn chores, is shown holding the proclamation!

Mayor William McIntire of the City of Hagerstown, proclaims and recognizes September 2026 as Abilities Advocacy Month in Hagerstown, Maryland. The City of Hagerstown encourages all businesses, organizations, and community members to respect, include, support and educate to establish Hagerstown as a community of all abilities.

Accepting the proclamation are (l-r) Sylvia Gipe, Star Community Employee; Tommy, Self-Advocate; Ojo, Star Community Employee; Tina Horst, Star Community Employee and Sarah, Self-Advocate from Star Community

People have the dignity to be valued and accepted for their abilities. The inclusion of all abilities is integral to the growth and prosperity of our community.

Citizens of Hagerstown should raise awareness of the importance of advocating for all abilities and be made aware of the value of people with different abilities.

Our community must actively respect, include, support, and educate to support a community of all abilities.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Woodruff/Beall family, our Equestrian Center now has a fully accessible pathway in our therapeutic animals pen! Called Lyle's Lane in memory of Lyle Beall, this pathway creates a fully accessible experience for our entire community to engage with our small animals. We cannot wait to see how Lyle's Lane will allow people of all abilities to freely engage with Polly, S'mores, Bella, Angelo, and Ernie!

From horses to tie dye to water games, our summer camp was a smash hit! Our campers had a rodeo, learned about the food chain, planted a tree, and even got to use a real fire hose. We hope to see you next year!

We're excited to introduce the new logo for Star Therapeutic Equestrian Center!

Why did we create a new logo? It’s largely due to one resounding question that we’ve heard for years: “What is Star Community”?

Raise your hand if you’ve ever asked this question!

Star Therapeutic Equestrian Center is one of three core services of Star Community. After considering feedback from our community, riders, and volunteers, we’ve realized that a new logo was needed to fully clarify the relationship between Star Community and our Equestrian Services. This is just one step in rolling out updated logos across all of Star Community’s core services, including our Employment and Meaningful Day Services and Residential Services. By creating a more consistent look across all three of our services, we're making it easier to see how each one is connected to our Star Community while still giving each one its own recognizable identity.

Image description: A text bubble sits above an image of our miniature horse Bella with the phrase "We're introducing our new logo". To the right sits the new logo, along with the new logos for Star Community's other two services.

Have you ever wondered what Angelo the donkey sounds like when he's eating grass?! Well... we have too!

Today we asked a few Star Community staff members what they thought he sounded like, and we honestly think they're all spot on... 10/10 no notes!

What do you think?
