What happens when a little girl dreams of becoming a singing, dancing, visionary astronaut? Eventually, she may just find her way to CMDE!

At the StorySlam Performance on June 25 at Johnson Public Library - Hackensack, NJ, CMDE Director Corinne Reilly shares her personal journey with dance—from sparkly costumes and dancing with her family, dog, and anyone willing to join, to middle-school “ugly duckling” years, competitive dance, marching band, and eventually finding her way back to movement.

After discovering CMDE while looking for a career that combined creativity and helping others, Corinne joined the organization as Youth Program Coordinator. Watching dancers in the studio eventually gave her a serious case of FOMO, and she decided to step back onto the dance floor herself.

Encouraged to try West African Dance, Corinne discovered that it was okay to make mistakes, learn something new, and simply enjoy moving. Her story is a joyful reminder that you don't have to be a professional dancer—or even get every step right—to belong on the dance floor.

Sometimes you just have to put down the flute, embrace the FOMO, and dance!

At CMDE's StorySlam Performance on June 25 at the Johnson Public Library, CMDE dance teacher Allie Brown shares a heartfelt story about inclusion, community, and the lifelong impact of dance.

Opening with the inspiring words of CMDE founder Shirley Ubell—"Dance should be for every body."—Allie reflects on how that simple yet powerful philosophy has shaped her life. She recounts her journey from being a young CMDE student to becoming a dance instructor, and how the organization's mission has come full circle as her twin daughters now dance at CMDE themselves.

Her story is a touching reminder that CMDE is more than a dance school—it's a community where generations grow, learn, and inspire one another through the joy of movement.
