This weekend Devils Wrestling was led by Luvlyn Ward. Luvlyn Ward, Dom Marquez, Jaden Ward, and Zac Yandle competed in the Colorado Freshman/Sophmore State. They boys battle hard but fell short of placing by a couple rounds. Overall they wrestled tough and added to their mat time. Freshman Luvlyn Ward pinned her way the the finals where she met Gia Gable. Gia finish 5th in state for Pine Creek in 5A this year. The match started off great till a scramble was created and luvlyn was caught. Luvlyn finished 2nd on the weekend. I'm so proud of each one of these athletes for continuing to step it up. Keep up the hard work. Summer wrestling, makes winter champs!!! "AIN'T IT GREAT TO BE A DEVIL!!"

Junior Lauryn Ward went 4-2 in the 125 lb girls 4A bracket this weekend at Ball Arena earning her 5th place honors. Lauryn earned herself a fall in the opening match of the day during the final 20 seconds to get things rolling! The junior lost her 2nd match to move over to the consolation side, where she went on a string of pins, but not without having to earn them! Lauryn was able to keep her head in the game after being taken down, to escape and issue some devastating ankle picks, which frustrated her opponents and led to eventual falls. Lauryn had a great year winning the Western Slope Showdown and Regionals, leading the girls team to 2nd place as a team in their Region. The likeable Junior is very likely to put in some extra work this summer and come back to walk the parade of champions next year! Aint it great to be a devil

Eagle Valley Devils wrestling took 4 girls and 3 boys to the State Tournament at Ball Arena this weekend. Lauryn Ward placed 5th at 125lb 4A. Cole Good placed 4th at 138 lb 4A.
All 4 girls had a win, no small feet in the presence of the best in the State. Freshman Luvlyn Ward went 1-2 at 105 lbs and will certainly be someone you'll be hearing about again. Now a 1x state qualifier with a state win under her belt, she knows the atmosphere for her sophmore year. Sophmore Gabby Littlepage cracked the win column after a stellar season at 110 lbs. If her perfect stance and smile don't change, she will be making the podium next year. Junior hammer 135 lb Julia Borejszo came in hot winning 7-0 only to get "caught" and have to move to the consolation side of the bracket. She then proceded to win one and lose one. All eyes on Julia next year as well.
Junior team captain Lauryn Ward was hot and cold throughout the tourney. Her devastating ankle pick may have been the best in the arena yesterday. It was enough to earn her some fifth place hardware.
Freshman Christian Pena, who wrestled between jv and varsity throughout the season, made the state cut taking 3rd in Regionals. He did not have a successful State tournament, but his innate strength and positive attitude are sure to show him success as years progress. Give that man another waffle !
Junior Nathan Leeper had a breakout season placing 3rd in the Region as well. The self proclaimed fishing addict treated himself to a new reel at Scheels after his Regional debut placing. Known for his unmatched drilling enthusiam, he lost his first state match in a close battle to a kid who went on to place. This is all anyone needed to see, to know hes coming back next year with podium on his mind.

FYI Travis will do a Lauryn post and we will put out a general post with all the kids. Eagle Valley Devils put Lauryn Ward on the girls 125 lb 4A podium at 5th and Cole Good on the boys 4A 138 lb at 4th.
Cole Good had an amazing career as a 4A devil. He acheived 4x state qualifier and 2x 4th State Placer 4A status with two wins at 23-24Western Slope Showdown, 24 Western Slope Showdown Outstanding Wrestler, 2023 Warrior Classic Champion, 2025 Les Mattox Champion, 2023 Regional Champ, 2023 Reno Worlds All American, , 2022 Supreme Gladiator runner up and too many other placements to mention.
Cole took Devun Lopez of Pueblo East to triple overtime last year, giving Lopez one of the closest matches he has had in the state. Cole took out last years 120lb State Champ, Joseph Meza, in the quarter finals on Friday night at Ball Arena, but lost his bid for a title to the eventual winner, Nico Fernandez in the Semi finals. The Meza match may have been Coles most impressive win of his career. Meza has beaten some of the best in the state and had no answer to Coles dominant top game. Cole listened to his coaches and let it fly in the 3rd place match only for the table to miscore and deny him the overtime victory he earned. He shot his opponent out of bounds for 3 stall calls but was only awarded 2. If youre friends with Cole on IG, his post says it all.
Coach Bob and wife Debbie could not be more grateful to share this adventure with this community. Watching our kids become friends supporting each other, the dinners, relationships fostered, laughter, travel, and community are the stuff of dreams! This was way bigger than wrestling to the Goods. If you would have given me the perfect sports experience, we could not have dreamt it this perfect. Id like to personally thank Travis Ward and Brandon Hern for being there from day 1 to the end. Without them, none of this is possible. In no special order, Special thanks to Max Wessel, Cam Croy, JT AYers, Earl Littlepage, Bobby Hermisillo, Scott, Steve Elicker, Noah Hermosillo, Buck Wessell, Jaggers Leepers,Bazjas, Lonnie, Braiden, Umbrella roofing and the Yandles, Cobbs, Luloff, Kottenstette, Glissman, Tom, Ryan, Tanner and Colby.

Eagle Valley boys punched 3 tix to state at Regionals with 3rd place finishes. Christian Pena looked solid as always and moved well at 113 lbs Cole Good looking like a contender for the title at 138 moving into State tourney. Nathan Leeper is peaking as well, taking the handfight and splash double to anyone and everyone about to straighten their headgear! Alex Good took a hard loss to for 5th place in OT.

215 lb Bennett Maloley and 98 lb Manny Hernandez make an unlikely pair, but today they shared honors at JV State in Northglenn. Bennett brought home 5th place in the 215 lb big boy bracket. He went on a run of pins taking out the #2 seed in the process! His learning curve is abput as fast and hard as they come! He seems to have traded his jujitsu habits for the more appropo greco throws and rolls.
Manny Hernandez is certainly a guy we all want in our corner as well. This is his 2nd big tournament where he finished on the podium this year, taking 6th today. Where years of experience are not available, Manny manages on grit, strength and persistence. These qualities earned him some hardware for the mantle!
Both boys and about 10 others will head to Colorado Springs on Friday for the 4A Regional tournament to qualify for State! Only the top 4 at each weight will go.
The 5 girls devils will have their regionals in Gunnison. Aint it great to be a devil!

Devils wrestling went on a tear yesterday at the Les Mattox invitationals. All 5 girls made the finals. Luvlyn Ward took 2nd with Nora Abbott, Gabi Littlepage, Lauryn Ward and Julia Borejszo all winning their Championship matches. The Eagle Devils girls came in an impressive 3rd as a team. Gabi Littlepage earned the honors with the outstanding wrestler award for the day.
The boys team came in 8th out of 32 teams at the 40th year of the tournament. Cole Good took out 2 ranked opponents on his path to victory at 138 lbs. Younger brother Alex Good made the finals and put his opponent Baca flat on his back in the final seconds of the match being awarded 2 swipes for the win, which the ref decided to "call off" with no explanation, and award Baca the belt.
Perhaps the most exciting match of the day came from freshman Josiah Quinn. "Joe" was losing in the cons rounds and managed to hit a peterson for 6 points, almost tying the match....only to then nearside cradle his opponent and "stick him' to continue on winning the Cons runner up spot
Bode Cobb and Christian Pena had great tournaments as well. Cobb taking 5th at 150lbs and Pena 6th at 113.
Hone tri/Senior Night on Tues Jan 28 at 6pm! Come give these wrestlers some encouragement as they train for Jv State, Regionals and their quest for a state title!
