A very proud moment for us at 912 Hustle — all 10 of our guys who decided to try out for their middle schools made the team! 💪🏼⚾️
At the end of our 10U season, we shifted our focus to preparing for middle school baseball. We challenged our players by moving up to AAA — not because we thought we were better, but because we wanted them to be pushed by competing against the best teams in our area.
We focused on working hard at the little things, because at the end of the day, those are what matter most:
• Dealing with failure — a big one for me and something I struggled with as a player.
• Responding to coaching — not everything is personal. If your kid isn’t being coached or corrected, that is the problem, not the other way around.
• Being a good teammate — chemistry is everything. Team > Me.
• Respecting adults on the field — even the umpires (who are sometimes visually challenged 😅).
• Confidence — maybe the most important thing in this game. The difference between a kid who believes in himself and one who doesn’t is night and day. If you’re going to learn anything in baseball, you’d better learn how to deal with failure.
•Dont focus on the result, focus on the process and the results will come.
•Dont just trust the process, LOVE IT!
Here’s a little unsolicited advice for parents looking for a travel team:
There’s no secret sauce. They’re just kids. They need someone who believes in them and helps unlock their potential. Before ages 15-16, there is no organization, jersey or amount of money that will get your baby drafted next year. So relax, let them fail and enjoy watching them do what they love to do.
And one more thing — bad parents are a cancer. Constantly talking trash about coaches or other kids and only caring about one player hurts everyone. Don’t be one, and don’t let one infect you.
Lastly, no I don’t believe playing middle school baseball in 6th, 7th or 8th grade is something you have to do. In the long run, it likely has little impact on how far your child goes in this sport. But if your child sets a goal and works hard to reach it, I’ll always fully support that. 💯
Proud of these guys. The Hard work shows👊⚾️
