A throwback tip that stands the test of time. If you are outnumbered and would need artificial flotation to feel the kids were “safe” in the pool, you can always just skip the pool! After all, the coast guard approval* for those devices was never intended for kids to use these for unlimited and unstructured playtime in swimming pools. The pool is a great option when you can be in the water giving 1:1 time with non-swimmers. If not, turn on the hose and invite the whole block to your sprinkler party!

*Life jackets do save lives in the event of an accidental fall-in at the pool so definitely use them for non-swimmers during snack and transition time on the pool deck. We also continue to stress that swimmers and non-swimmers alike use life jackets on boats, piers and open water such as lakes rivers etc.

👋 If you're new around here... Hello!

I'm Melissa, the owner and instructor behind Miss Meliss Swim School, serving families in the Clarksville, TN and Russellville, KY areas, and a bunch in between :D

I thought I'd share a little about myself!

💙 I first learned about ISR when my sister-in-law began her certification in 2017. I was in awe, and I knew I wanted to be part of the mission to help prevent childhood drowning.

🏊‍♀️ My favorite part of teaching? That "light bulb" moment when it clicks for a child. Seeing their confidence grow as they realize what they're capable of is something I'll never get tired of.

❤️ I've been married to my wonderful husband for almost 24 years, and together we've been blessed with five amazing kids, ranging in age from 9 to 21. Life is busy, loud, and full—and I wouldn't have it any other way!
