CHARGER Wrestlers, Managers, Parents, and Fans! We have been given the opportunity to fundraise during RAGBRAI by offering our facility for showers. We need help to manage towels and check people in and out to ensure enough showers are available for everyone. Please put your name on the spreadsheet and Coach Lane will reach out. This is a really great opportunity for our program!

Anyone who may need or want more details, please don't hesitate to reach out to Coach Lane.

The ACGC Wrestling team wrapped up their season at the awards banquet last night. There was a lot to be celebrated this season, with several notable accomplishments noted below:

Tied the school record for the third consecutive year with 6 state qualifiers.

Came away with two state place winners: Carter Richter 215 (6th place, Ryder Cline 144 (8th Place)

1A District Champs for the first time in MANY years. (first time in ACGC history and since sectionals were eliminated)

3rd place team finish at the 2-day, John J Harris Tournament, along with several other top 5 finishes as a team throughout the season.

18th Place as a team out of 95 qualifying 1A teams at the individual state tournament.

New school record holders on the season: Jack Sheeder - fastest fall in school history (0:06 seconds) Chase Slaybaugh - Most career 4pt nearfalls (27)

TWO All State academic award winners - Charlie Christensen and Ryder Cline. It has been over 5 years since ACGC has had a wrestler earn this award, by having greater than 3.75 GPA, qualifying for the state tournament, and being chosen by the IWCOA.

ACGC Wrestling will say goodbye to five outstanding seniors that have given a lot to this program. Charlie Christensen, Angel Martinez, Carter Richter, Jack Sheeder and Chase Slaybaugh are leaving big shoes to fill. This group combined for 488 wins in 4 years. They not only dedicated lots of time in high school, but well before their years in the Junior High and Youth program. This group has set a great example for the underclassmen and future generations of ACGC wrestling.

The coaching staff can't thank this team enough for their great effort and attitude all season long, making this one to remember. Off season work has just begun, and we already have several guys working towards their goals for next year. We look forward to continuing to raise the standard of this program and finding success both on and off the mat.

Go Chargers!

Charlie Christensen - ACGC's 1%er Award

Charlie represents all of the things we talk about daily, from controlling attitude and putting forth the best effort every day. Whether in the practice room, competition, school, or anywhere else, it is always 100% his best. Charlie had serious work to do, after missing substantial time in his career due to injury, and found multiple ways in the offseason to make up time. He led the team this season in match points (369), tied for most takedowns (75), had the most escapes and most 2pt nearfalls. He also earned one of two All State academic honors on the team this season. Charlie was willing to do things 99% of others aren't, earning him a spot in the 1%er club. Coming back stronger than ever after tearing his ACL, making it to state, worked all the way to the blood round, and giving his best effort until the last match. Congratulations, Charlie!

Carter Richter - ACGC's Most Valuable Wrestler Award

Carter finished the season tied for the most wins on the team (44), led total team points of 283, tied for most takedowns in the season with 75, and was third on the team in total match points of 295. More notably, this wrestler stepped up immensely as a leader and captain, taking underclassmen under his wing and always caught talking up his teammates during practices, and before/after matches. He spent countless hours after practice working on things with multiple practice partners, and set a great example for his teammates. He capped off his final season with a 6th place finish at state. Congratulations, Carter!

Chase Slaybaugh - ACGC's Most Improved Wrester Award.

Chase showed improvement not only during his matches, but as a leader this season. He led the team in 3pt and 4pt nearfalls, cut his losses nearly in half from the prior year, and led the team in tech falls (7) after never earning a tech fall in a match prior to this season. He went 27-22 last year, to 36-13 this season, qualified for the state tournament for the first time in his career, winning some hard fought matches down there, and above all he earned the respect of every one of his teammates and coaches for becoming a great leader. Congratulations, Chase!
