Had a great time back in NJ but we're back in BAMA, just in time for the start of my absolute favorite time of year. Tourists are gone, college football is almost back (ROLL TIDE!!!), the gulf is hot, the beers are cold, and the solid country gold continues to play loud!

MSF birthday week for us over here - celebrated by doing a crab boil with Kati on Friday, did a little deep drop rig making with Chase on Saturday, then fished with da boys Sunday. Tough conditions but managed a box of porgy and golden tilefish with a couple extras - some nice sized tiles today too.

If ya ever wanted to see what the fuss is about down in LA (Lower Alabama) and why it's the 6th fastest growing county in the USA - the next three months are the best time to come get a taste.

Charter was canceled due to wind but our buddy found an open boat with six spots for us and we hopped on it. Conditions were tough for drifting but Capt did what he could and we did what we could to put some fluke and sea bass on the table. We know what it's like dealing with a tough drift but ya make the best of it and it was still a nice day. Kati even caught a triggerfish which was cool since we fish for those down in Alabama.

Visiting my family up in NJ and hopped on a party boat for flounder - pops ended up with a 19" second place flounder and my neice and nephew got to catch their first flounder ever. Got a private trip planned on Wednesday to go out in the ocean for some flounder - stay tuned 😎

Happy 4th of July and America's 250th birthday folks - celebrating with a deep drop FISHING REPORT in the Gulf of AMERICA 🇺🇸

It was one of them days where nothing wanted to go according to plan, mutiple things decided to break, and absolutely nothing came easy. Frustrating as hell and had to work our asses off to put this box together, but got boarded by the game Warden who said no one he checked caught much worth a damn, then inspected our box and said it was the best he seen all day - we'll take it.

Kept blue line tile, long tail sea bass, yellow edge grouper, red porgy, bearded bortula, red snapper.

Chase wanted to do an exploratory trip in waters we do not really venture over to - I said we'll go but only if we check this one area for barrel fish. I spent way too many hours researching these things after Chase sent us a video of them a good while back, I'm happy to say we found them exactly where we thought they'd be. Was able to mark them on the bottom machine over 1000' deep. They get much bigger than this but I'm still thrilled to finally find these elusive creatures of the deep. We got some plans to look for them closer to home and find some big boys, but that'll do for now.

Bonus scamp in some shallow water exploring, plus we made some sword drops and landed another swordfish in a new area that was an inch too small to keep and had to go back, but he put on a great show jumping out of the water a decent number of times.

Good day all around - another species off the list and this one had been a challenge to find. Now that we got a better idea about these barrels, hopefully we'll find the 15-20- # big boys one day. 🛢️🛢️🛢️

Buddy said he had some visitors in town and needed someone to get them on a chew to catch a ton of fish and fill the cooler. Say less - we can do that for ya. Caught 150+ fish today including another UNREEL LIMIT of red snapper (including a 25 # stud), and also called a ton of other species including a Unicorn 🦄 Filefish. Sending these folks back north with a ton of meat 💯

🚨🚨🚨211 # YELLOWFIN TUNA ALERT 🚨🚨🚨

This story is unbelievable but I promise it’s true. Our great buddy Chase has been on a sword fishing kick and wanted to do this month long sword fishing tournament where you can only declare 3 fishing days. We are more than happy to learn this fishery with him and help where we can, so we said yes, paid the dues, and signed up.

We had to fish today in big seas because this weekend looks even worse, and slowly headed 70 miles offshore. Storms were on the horizon and we figured we’d run away from them when the time came, but we hooked into an absolute monster fish and 1.5 hours later it wasn’t in the boat yet. It was too late and the storm moved right on top of us with the wind blowing and the rain pouring, but we battled on for another hour and hit him with the harpoon and gaffes, and then he was finally in the boat.

I’m sure it has happened, but I’ve never heard of someone catching a YFT 1300’ down while swordfishing, especially with a tuna this size - I’m sure this is rare. We won’t win this tournament but we did catch two swordfish, a pomfret, and a whopper tuna - no complaints here.

A few years ago we had come across a guy named Chase on a local Facebook group looking to get serious about going offshore. We were even newer to the game but looking for the same. Made a plan to look for golden tilefish together and found them the first try, and it’s been a gravy train of a friendship ever since with some incredible catches I never thought possible. I have no idea why he trusts us and we’re his first call for a fishing trip but I’m appreciative of it 💯

Only been flounder gigging one time so going to be learning this on the fly, but the little KW 1520 has been rigged up with three sets of lights to stab some night time flounder and we’ll see how it goes. Most people seem to use a flat bottom tin boat but we got what we got here and going to give it a go

Pictured here is our buddy Chase with a Pomfret we caught while swordfishing on this great American holiday. Not the 300 # sword we were after but not something you see caught often at all. Put this on the list of stuff I never thought I’d be part of pulling over the rail on a boat ever.

Our buddy Chase wanted to do some sword fishing so MSF & friends answered the call, hopped on his boat, and had a nice trip. Did some night time swording first but it produced some jumbo blackfin tuna instead. Tried a bunch of off the beaten path swordfish spots and did go 2/2 on them, but they were both undersized and released. Learning a lot and learning it fast - great crew and a lot of fun the last 24 hours, fortunate to be a part of it.
