Shibumi-do (the Way of Elegant Simplicity) Karate. It is an eclectic mix of traditional Shotokan and modern kata developed by Hanshi Whitmer and is geared to give students the competitive edge at local, national and international level competition. Chen style T'ai Chi Ch'uan is also known as moving meditation and is a Chinese system of empty hand and weapons forms designed to enhance the students

flexibility,strength and overall mental health.The deceptively soft and flowing movements harbor much power that becomes apparent to the student as their training progresses. TaeKwonDO using the patterns techniques of ITF Taekwon-Do as originally created by it’s Founder, General Choi Hong Hi. , characterized by it's fast, high and spinning kicks. Sparring (Kumite) is also covered, giving the student a real edge in the ring. Okinawan Kobudo curriculum covers the well known weapons-the bo stafff,nunchaku,sai,and kama, and some other not so well known but equally interesting and intriguing devices. Japanese swordsmanship and Kobudo is an integral component of this class, from the traditions of Itto-Ryu school founded in the year 832 AD to the more modern techniques of American Kenjutsu. Practical applicatons in the form of Chanbara training and Kendo are a regular part of the training experience. Goshin-Jutsu our self defense progam is developed over literally decades of police,military and martial arts experience and is constantly updated by our staff to meet the needs of personal defense in the real world.The student not only receives a well-rounded base of techniques to protect themselves and their loved ones but a working knowledge of the law as it pertains to self protection.

Thought I would post a note thanking all my well wishers over my recent hospital stay. Home now and doing better after pulling about a gallon of fluid off.went through a heart cath but only one very small plaque was found.as the old saying goes getting old aint for sissies.

Watched the first 3 episodes of Sh**un last night.Reminded me of when the original aired in 1980-I was green belt in Kwanmukan at the time and we would end class early those nights and go over to watch it a local pub. It piqued my interest in the Samurai which I was able to expand on under the tutelage of Dr. Sadeo Kotaka a few years later at Ohio State University in the study of Kogen Itto Ryu founded in the year 832. His ancestors fought with Ieyasu Tokugawa -Toranaga in the show-at the battle of Sekigahara.He had a katana that one of his kin had carried into battle there and I had the honor of holding it once.Kotaka Sensei estimated its age at 850 years old.
