Statement from the Midnight Riders

Joan Sebastián Durán Guerrero was a beloved father, husband, and son. A native of Colombia, he legally resided in Biddeford, Maine, where he delivered food and cleaned at a veterinary clinic. On Monday, July 13, he was killed by an ICE agent in front of his wife and young daughter.

While our primary focus is soccer, we cannot look away when a tragedy like this occurs right here in New England. The sidelines are not an option in life.

We stand with the Dirigo Union and echo the calls for ICE to be held accountable for this inexcusable behavior. Our thoughts are with Sebastian’s family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. Everyone should be able to live safely in their community without fear of violence from our own government.
