ONE OF THE IMPOSSIBLY BEAUTIFUL PLACES in the vicinity of our cabin in Maine’s “100-Mile Wilderness”.

While usually a much better sunrise location, for a couple weeks each year, the sun sets far enough north to set behind the mountain. From the right angle of course. Which requires a boat or a flying camera.

EVERY MINUTE we’re not in Maine, we’re missing out on experiences like this. This waterfall is a short hike from our camp.

Saturday, April 15, 2023, aproximatley 8:30 am: Train derailment and fire between Jackman and Rockwood was reported. Cause is currently being determind from a wash out.

The 3 member train crew sustained minor injuries. CP Rail has a large crew on scene working to get everything cleaned up and the track repaired.

The fire involved one of the 3 locomotives, and several rail cars loaded with lumber. There were no hazardous materials involved. The fires are contained and are being monitored.

Additional rail cars transporting hazardous materials did not derail. The assessment of officials on the scene is that these hazardous materials are not at risk of leaking and are not at risk of catching fire.

This line comes close to Big Wilson Camp, but the accident happend further down the line.

OUR PLACE is a short hike from this vantage, just around the bend and across the tracks from Borestone. Wish I were there!

I think my favorite part about sleeping out here on the ice was listening to the train come through and blow its whistle as it crossed the trestle. What I would give to catch it coming across at sunrise after a fresh snow.

TOBEY FALLS - One of the “too many to mention” landmarks surrounding our cabin in Maine. This one is just downstream from us. We’ve tubed and kayaked to this spot many, many times. Or, it’s a short ride on logging roads and a great place for a picnic!

Thanks for all the well wishes and positive vibes. I’m already feeling much better. Mostly just tired now. The kiddo is just tired of being stuck inside.
To clarify my previous post, I wasn’t hesitant to share our diagnosis because I was embarrassed. I just didn’t want to deal with all the politically charged nonsense surrounding this issue. On the plus side, I only ended up having to block 3 accounts for spouting off anti science rhetoric. I didn’t think I had to explain this, but this is not the place for that.
