Who is the earliest graduate of GCHS to be elected to this HOF? It is Forrest Meyers, 1916 high school graduate in a class of 15! . While we have little of Forrest's high school sports career, he was widely honored athlete at Coe College in football, basketball, and baseball.
For many years, Meyers was considered one of the greatest athletes to play for Coe College. He was a running back in football, an outfielder in baseball, and center on the basketball team where he was captain of the 1920 Coe team.
Nicknamed "Chief" while at Coe, Meyers earned several "all state" collegiate honors of the day and was noted for decades as one of Coe's greatest athletes.
Meyers passed away in 1975 and is buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. He was represented at his 2012 induction by his grand-daughter Mary Gayle Meyers Stowe.
