The theme of this weekend was “LIGHTENING DELAY.” 🤣
We travelled to North Myrtle Beach, SC this weekend to compete in all A/B competition at TopGun’s “20th Annual Hawaiian Dual.” We didn’t get to complete pool play yesterday and finished 2 out of the 3 games scheduled going 0-2. This made us the #15 seed and we knew we’d have a battle ahead of us today.
These girls came out bats swinging this morning though! We had a team best of only 3 strikeouts at bat in the first bracket game and hitting 6 balls into play along with getting three BB’s. We had some amazing pitching in the first bracket game with Leilani Carrillo adding 7 more strikeouts to her resume to open and Sailor Holden coming in to close and capping off the win with sitting down 3 more batters with her pitches. We won bracket game 1 against Semper Fi 10u with a score of 7-3.
We had a little break and then had to face the highest seed in our bracket to advance to the championship game. We beat Harrisburg Heat 10u with a score of 6-2, and we were waiting to play the championship game when the lightening and storms rolled in. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to take on Sumter Salute 10u due to storms rolling in and the tournament being canceled. Due to rain policy and our team being the lower seed, we were awarded runner up since we had played enough bracket to get to that game. I do believe we would’ve definitely had an awesome championship game, but I’m so proud of the girls.
To think that this team has half of our players able to stay in 10u moving into the fall, our Yarddogs future is very bright! Even our youngest players were making great defensive plays and getting hits out there in the highest competition of play! I’m so excited to watch this group continue to grow in the game, but now for a quick “summer break” and then back at it in July with two more tournaments and tryouts for the 2026-2027 season! Way to go Yarddogs! We are so proud of each and every one of you 🖤
