Driver Jeff Nisonger is two wins shy of reaching 4,000 for his career after notching a pair of victories in the 16-race card on the opening day of the Putnam County Fair meet in Ottawa, Ohio, on Tuesday (June 23).

Nisonger’s first win of the day came with Dan O’Mara trainee Stormin Suds. The 2-year-old Lather Up filly won by half a length in 1:59.4. Nisonger won again in the very next race, guiding Dancin Again to victory by three-quarters of a length in 1:59.2, which was the fastest mile of the card. Dancin Again is a 3-year-old Dancin Yankee filly trained by Brian Jones.

Threefiftytwo won the Signature Series Trot by two lengths in 2:03.4 with trainer Cameron Kina in the sulky.

Hank LeVan finished as the leading driver and trainer in the card with three victories in each capacity. From his stable, he drove Dobby Do L, Rudedude L, and Bit Of L to victory.

Kina, Alex Hawk, Pierce Henry, and Ken Holliday joined Nisonger with two driving wins each. Kina, Henry, and Holliday also tallied two training wins.

The two-day Putnam County Fair meet concludes on Wednesday (June 24) with a 15-race card starting at 5 p.m. Currently listed for nine drives, Nisonger will look to reach the 4,000-win mark.

Former fastest male 2-year-old pacer of all time and 2019 Ohio Horse of the Year Elver Hanover has been officially retired from racing.

Purchased as a yearling by Burke Racing, Elver Hanover was trained throughout his racing career by Ron Burke. Elver Hanover retires with a record of 1:48.3, taken at the age of 2, along with $969,901 in earnings and 35 wins from 170 lifetime starts. Never raced in a claiming race, Elver competed at the top level each year, racing in the Open Handicap at Northfield Park as recently as August 2025.

An extremely kind and gentle horse, Elver loves people and his interactions with them. Having spent much of his career in the first stall of the barn at The Meadows, Elver was often the first horse that visitors to the barn stopped to see. He is universally loved by all that know him.

Elver Hanover retired sound, healthy, and happy and now lives on the farm of Bridgette Jablonsky, his part owner and one of the people who loves him the most.

The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association hosted a Burgers & Babies event on Monday (June 22) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Guests were treated to free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and drinks during the 2-year-old qualifiers.

Burnout broke the pacing track record to highlight the two-day Pickaway County Fair meet in Circleville, Ohio, on Saturday and Sunday (June 20-21). In the $10,000 Steamin Demon Pace on Sunday, the 6-year-old Racing Hill gelding led gate to wire and won by six lengths in 1:56 with Austin Hanners driving for trainer Todd Luther. The prior track record was 1:57, set by Newbegining in 2008 and matched by Medoland Bosa in 2020 and Burnout in 2025. Burnout is owned by Greg Luther Racing.

Sunday’s 21-race card also featured two divisions of the Spring Haven Farm Ladies Driving Series Pace. Driver Leslie Joyce won the first division with Shecaughtthekaty in 2:02.3 for trainer Tyler Tinch. Jazmin Short won the second division with Yacht Week in 2:01.1 for trainer Herman Hagerman.

Luther trainee Its Nacho Turn recorded the fastest mile of Saturday’s 17-race card, winning race 13 in 2:00.1 with Hank LeVan in the sulky.

Also on Saturday, driver Dee Sanders won the Terry Holton Youth Driving Series Pace with Medoland Uncle B in 2:00.3 for trainer Mario Wilson, and Russell Swartz scored his 2,000th career driving win in the The Macs Classic Open Trot with Deborah Swartz trainee Abbey D in 2:01.3.

With six wins each, LeVan and Carson Conrad finished as the top drivers in the two-day meet. Hanners tallied five wins, and Jeff Nisonger recorded four. Alex Hawk finished with three victories, and Sanders, Ken Holliday, and Roy Wilson tallied two each.

LeVan was the top trainer in the meet with five victories. Nisonger finished with four, and Luther and Steve Carter had three each. Holliday, Brian Georges, Ronnie Gillespie, and Mark Winters tallied two wins each.

Through two fairs, Conrad and Nisonger lead the driver standings with 10 wins apiece. LeVan and Nisonger lead the trainer standings with eight wins each.
