Today we are celebrating the birthday of Jaden Rose! Jaden played as a utility player this past season - outfield, first base, and pitcher, wherever he was needed! He had a great batting average and we loved watching him hit home runs! We hope your birthday is a 'home run', too!! Enjoy your special day!

A big season on the mound for our boys this season! Our pitching staff racked up a massive 286 total strikeouts this year. Tucker Garrison led the team with a workhorse 69 innings pitched and 60 strikeouts. We also had some absolute heat coming out of the bullpen, with Jacob Rexrode, Andrew Baugher and Stu Barrett averaging over a strikeout per inning!

The Grottoes Cardinals definitely put on a show at the plate this year in the Rockingham County Baseball League - RCBL! Crushing 246 team RBIs is a massive season, and it takes a lot of clutch hitting up and down the lineup to put up a number that big. Here are the players with the highest RBI's this season:

Dylan Nicely 34 RBI; Jaden Rose 33 RBI;
Clayton Michael 32 RBI; Austin Nicely 25 RBI;
Natty Solomon 20 RBI; Will Eppard 13 RBI;
Dalton Nicely 13 RBI; Luke Keister 9 RBI;
Dillon O'Connor 9 RBI; Dawson Russell 8 RBI

Many other players with limited at bats added to the season final of 246 RBI's. What a year for our Grottoes Cardinals!

We missed a Cardinal's birthday that we want to highlight! Cody Peck's birthday was back on August 9. This was Cody's first year playing for the Cardinals' and he was one of our home run hitters this season! Cody is a graduate of Miller School of Albemarle where he played baseball. This fall he will be playing baseball for the Richard Bland College Statesmen. We are so sorry we missed your birthday Cody and hope you had a great day! Happy Belated Birthday!

Our season may be over but the memories of what was accomplished this season by the Cardinals can't be forgotten such as we had 37 homers by our players this year!! Here are our top home run leaders:

Dylan Nicely - 10, Austin Nicely - 6, Jaden Rose - 4,
Natty Solomon - 3, Cam Irvine - 3

Also hitting home runs this year were Clayton Michael, Will Eppard, Dillon O'Connor, Tucker Garrison, Jared Morris, Ryan Mannion, Will Tomlinson and Cody Peck

That grit and "never say die" attitude is exactly what makes the Grottoes Cardinals ready to return to Ray Heatwole Field tonight to take on the Bridgewater Reds Baseball team in a must win game! The Cardinals coaching staff and team are ready to take on the challenge! We hope you are planning to head out and support the Cardinals as they look to spark a historic comeback! Let's go Guys!! You can do this!!

Game time: 7 p.m.
Location: Ray Heatwole Field in Bridgewater - Behind John Wayland Elem. School - 801 N. Main St.
Cost: $5 admission for ages 13+, $4 for ages 60+, 12 and under get in free.
