Clayton Michael is another returning player for our Grottoes Cardinals! Clayton played for the Grottoes Little League, and he played travel ball with the Shenandoah Valley Vipers, the Cavemen, and Upper Deck. He continued playing baseball at the high school level for the Fort Defiance Indians and went on to play at Ferrum College. Clayton is another player who is dependable and ready to play every game. You know he is going to give 100% effort every time he is on the field!

On this Wednesday we are celebrating Mary Baldwin Fighting Squirrels Baseball Coach on his birthday! Coach Scott Hearn has been the coach for Mary Baldwin since 2018. The team moved their home games to Shifflett Field in 2024. We appreciate the work that Coach Hearn and his staff have done and continue to do at Shifflett Field to help especially with field maintenance. Happy Birthday Coach!

Catcher Dylan Nicely will be returning this year for his 10th season as a Grottoes Cardinal. Back in 2018 Manager Bobby Swink had to this to say about Dylan and it remains true! "I don't have to worry about that position, and that at least behind the plate we are going to be just fine. I look for big things from Dylan this summer, and if there's one guy on this roster that you can come to a game just to root for, he's the man."

We are getting warmed up for the start of the season next week when we travel to take on the Clover Hill Bucks at Buck Bowman Stadium on Tuesday May 19th!

The Bridgewater College baseball team will play in the NCAA regionals for the first time since 2014. The Eagles will face Scranton in a double-elimination format in the Washington and Jefferson regional in Washington, Pa., beginning on Friday, May 15.

Congratulations Eagles!! We are cheering the team, especially Assistant Coach Austin Nicely and Pitcher Andrew Baugher who play for our Cardinals. There are also numerous players on the team who have played for the Cardinals in previous years! GO EAGLES!!!

Happy Mother's Day to our Baseball Moms! Thank you for the endless years of sitting in the stands, washing out tough grass stains, packing coolers, and hurting when your son strikes out or makes an error, all the while cheering the loudest! And now that your son is grown and playing on the Cardinals you are still cheering him on with your love and support! You are the true MVPs of the field, driving the team forward with your love and dedication. Have a home-run day!

The men from Bridgewater College are continuing their journey this baseball season. Winning pitcher today was Andrew Baugher who will be playing for our Cardinals this upcoming season! We are cheering you on guys!

TYSONS, Va. - The No. 9 nationally ranked Bridgewater College baseball team made noise at the ODAC finals round in the first game of the double-elimination four-team field against top-seed Lynchburg with a 14-inning victory Thursday at Capital One Park by a final score of 4-3.

Back for his sixth season as Manager of the Grottoes Cardinals is Tim Nicely! We are incredibly proud to have him back at the helm as over the last five years he has built a culture of excellence, discipline, and character for our players. Five years of dedicating late nights and weekends while leading these athletes to reach their potential is exactly why he's one of the best.

Watching the Grottoes Cardinals play at Shifflett Field offers high-quality, free-admission baseball that brings our community together to cheer on the team. The foundation between players and fans is strong for our Cardinals, and we can't wait to watch Manager Nicely lead our team to another winning season at Shifflett Field this season!!

We have a new baseball team to follow that one of our Cardinal fans is playing on! Isaac Funk, the son of Adam and Jo Funk and grandson of John and Midge Funk, has been playing on a team at the University of Oxford in England where he is a student! Adam threw out a first pitch for the Cardinals several years ago and his grandparents have sponsored our team for many years as well actually placing a sign at the scoreboard to honor Isaac! John passed away a few years ago and his family donated four of the picnic tables that many of our fans use at the games!

We hope Isaac or his parents will tell us a little more information about the team in Oxford! Go Isaac! We are cheering you on from back here in Virginia!!
