On this 25th Anniversary of 9/11, we remember how baseball helped the nation to heal. The games were postponed for a week after the 9/11 attacks. And then the first game in New York after the attacks featured the Mets playing the Braves and when Mike Piazza hit a home run the crowd went wild! (Video in comments) Then the Yankees returned to New York and President Bush was asked to throw out the first pitch and he pitched a strike. These two games helped give us all something to cheer about.

Happy Birthday to Grottoes Cardinal Cam Irvine! Cam has played for the Cardinals for several years and his steady work ethic and "play hard" mindset is exactly what makes him such a valuable teammate. From his standout days at Spotswood High School through his college baseball career, he has always brought serious hustle to the diamond and he continues to do so as a Cardinal!

So everyone be sure to wish #30 Cam Irvine a very happy birthday today and we can't wait to see him back at Shifflett Field in 2027!

Grottoes Cardinals' Catcher Dylan Nicely started off August with absolutely crushing home runs during the RCBL playoffs! And then, his biggest and best 'grand slam' home run came near the end of August when he and Meredith were married! Wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of love, happiness, and many more out of the park home runs together!

Congratulations from all of us at the Grottoes Cardinals!!

Today we are celebrating the birthday of Jaden Rose! Jaden played as a utility player this past season - outfield, first base, and pitcher, wherever he was needed! He had a great batting average and we loved watching him hit home runs! We hope your birthday is a 'home run', too!! Enjoy your special day!
