It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Commodore Ken Jamieson, of the Grosse Pointe Sail Club, who passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 28.

Ken served as Commodore of the Grosse Pointe Sail Club in 1976 and remained an important part of the club and its history for many years. He was believed to be GPSC’s longest-standing Past Commodore since Jay Deeds, a distinction of which he was very proud.

A service for Ken will be held on Wednesday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Clair Shores. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life, Commodores Salute, and luncheon at North Star Sail Club. Ken’s family wanted to especially let the club know that a strong gathering of GPSC Past Commodores at the North Star Sail Club celebration would be warmly welcomed and deeply appreciated.

The Grosse Pointe Sail Club was an important part of Ken’s life, and we know many of our longtime members have wonderful stories and memories of their years spent with him on and around the water.

We extend our deepest condolences to Ken’s son, John, and the entire Jamieson family.

What a wonderful night of racing we had last night! The wind was a little flukey, but we ended up with more breeze than predicted and had another great evening on the water.

Mike Florian was once again out with his camera and captured 147 photos from the race!

There are some great shots in here, so take a look and see if he caught your boat. Thanks again to Mike for continuing to come out and capture our racing!

Last night’s Sundown Series racing featured a great start, some close competition, and even a photo finish.

And, as always, a big thank you to our Race Committee for continuing to dedicate their time and energy to supporting our sailors and making these races possible.

Today is our annual GPSC Family Picnic & Lady Meggan Challenge, and we’d love to see you on the water—and at the picnic! We already have five boats registered, but there’s still time to join the fleet.

🏆 Lady Meggan Challenge — JAM Race
⏰ Start: 11:00 AM

The Lady Meggan Challenge Cup is one of the Grosse Pointe Sail Club’s most treasured traditions. Formerly known for decades as the Ladies’ Race, this event celebrates the women who sail, race, and lead in our sport. It’s a great opportunity to get out on the water with friends and family, whether you’re a regular racer or just want to join the fun!

📍 Windmill Pointe Park — near Docks 3 & 4

The Club will provide:
🍔 Burgers
🌭 Hot dogs
🥔 Chips
🥤 Drinks

And Commodore Wixson will be bringing his award-winning homemade mac & cheese! 😋

Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share—appetizers, sides, desserts, or another main course. Anything goes!

Photographer Mike Florian loves capturing a good downwind start, and we’re grateful that he comes out on his own accord to take some of these amazing photos. If you raced last night, there’s a pretty good chance he got a great shot of you and your crew!

Shown here is Commodore Wixson and his crew on Live Forever just after hoisting the kite.

We also want to remind everyone that our own in-house photographer and videographer, Jenny, usually has some great footage of the starts to share afterward at Marge’s Bar on Mack Ave. Marge’s has always shown our sailing community tremendous hospitality, so we hope you’ll join the unofficial post-race gathering there after the races. Come by after the races, grab a drink, and spend a little time with the people you were just racing against on the water.

They say the wind is free. And last night, we may have gotten exactly what we paid for.

Last night’s race was certainly a slow one, but we thank everyone who came out and stuck with it, and congratulate those who managed to make it across the finish line!

Mike Florian was once again out on the water taking drone photos, and despite the light air, he captured some fantastic shots of our fleet and competitors (link in the comments). Sometimes a slow race makes for some pretty great pictures.
