Eight DCG and 3 Clay Crusher athletes and their parents traveled to High Lakes Outdoor Alliance to compete in multiple disciplines last Saturday. It was the best shooting conditions I’ve ever seen there. Sunshine and almost no wind. Here are highlights:

Trap Singles:

Ty placed first of 22 Senior JV with a 47, including another 25 straight!

Wyatt placed 9th overall of 51 Intermediate athletes with a 43.

Jeffery placed 12th overall of 51 Intermediate athletes and tied for first of 25 Intermediate Entry (IE) athletes. Jeffery continues to improve his scores every weekend.

Roman placed 19th overall and 7th of 25 IE with 42.

Harrison placed first of 2 Rookies with 23.

Trap Handicap
Ty placed 4th of 10 Senior JV with 35

Wyatt placed 1st of 20 Intermediate athletes with a 44! That’s higher than the first place Senior JV. Wyatt loves Handicap.

Trap Doubles
Ty placed 2nd of 8 Senior JV with a 41.

Wyatt placed 4th of 16 Intermediate with 39

5 stand
Ty placed 2nd of 5 Senior JV with 37

Wyatt placed 4th of 13 Intermediate athletes with a 37

Roman placed 11th overall of 13 Intermediate and he was the only Entry level. Congratulations to Roman for pushing to expand his Clay Target shooting.

S***t
Wyatt placed 5th of 15 Intermediate athletes with 41. Not bad for the 4th time shooting s***t.

In trap singles, we continue to be very competitive and continue to improve. I’m happy to have athletes trying all disciplines, even though we haven’t had much practice time on them. Even with minimal practice time, we’re very competitive in the other disciplines.

Note: Dallas Center-Grimes Trap Team is a private SCTP club and not affiliated with the school system. Anyone local is welcome to join. Local defined as Des Moines NW metro area and most of Dallas County. Recruiting for the 26-27 season will begin September 1. We anticipate offering practice at least twice per week in September and October. Fall is the ideal time for on boarding new athletes. If you’re interested, please message us.

We haven’t had a shooter introduction lately, so everyone meet Keegan Houser! 🎯

Keegan is a first-year, 6th grade trap team member who already shows a lot of determination and drive. He loves getting outside to shoot, and in his spare time he even started his own lawn mowing business this year.

With that kind of work ethic and motivation, we’re excited to see where this sport can take him — or where he can take the sport. 👏🎯

Trap Team Tuesday 🎯

Meet teammate Cael Bushnell! This is Cael’s first year on the trap team, but he’s been shooting with his family for years. His experience shows, and he’s a great addition to the team.

Cael loves being outdoors, which is one of the reasons he enjoys the sport so much. 🌿🎯

We’re glad to have you on the team, Cael! 👏

We had a great morning in Akley today. Three DCG and two Clay Crushers shot 100 targets in the SCTP Regional Shoot today. Beautiful day, almost no wind and a special venue. I think all 5 athletes shot season best scores, unusual for this point in the season. I’m really pleased that our athletes are making such progress.

Ty shot a 95, including his second 25 straight, Jeffery shot 75 and Chase shot 69, including two rounds of 20+. We also had a great cheering squad! Thanks Jeff for posting pictures and video.

Ty placed 10th overall of 87 Senior Men, highest score of all 30 JV athletes.

Jeffery placed 35th overall of 53 Intermediate athletes, 10th of the 17 Intermediate Entry athletes.

Jackson Giles shot s***t at Pella this morning. His 31 was good for second best Intermediate Entry. Pretty good for his first s***t competition.

Trap Team Tuesday 🎯

Meet teammate Stephen Patterson. This is Stephen’s first year trap shooting, and he’s already off to a great start. At just his second trap competition ever Stephen shot an impressive 90 out of 100! His goal is to get a straight 25 before the season is over.

Stephen’s mom, Shelby, also volunteers with the team as our Secretary/Treasurer.

Great shooting, Stephen — we’re excited to see what the rest of the season brings! 👏🎯

Reminder: The DCG Trap Team's 2026 Spring Season registration and kick off meeting will be Wednesday, January 21 at 7 PM at the Raccoon Valley Sportsman's Club Clubhouse at 26404 Sportsman's Club Rd, Adel, IA. All interested athletes and parents are encouraged to attend. We currently have over 20 athletes planning to join the team, all grades 5-10. We will register for the team plus get our memberships at RVSC. We'll explain procedures, planned schedules, sign 3 paper forms and pay registration fees. We also plan to present an overview of gun fitting principles. Registration fee for the 2026 Spring Season will be $150 for each athlete, which includes your SCTP, ATA and RVSC memberships. The Registration fee does not include any targets or ammunition this year.

In addition to our practice at Raccoon Valley Sportsman’s Club on Sunday 3-5 pm, we have verbal commitment from the DNR for us to use the Trap/S***t and 5 Stand fields at Olofson Shooting Range on Wednesday and Friday evenings beginning at 5:30. We may also have a mid week practice at RVSC if there is enough interest.

We had our first 2025-2026 adult volunteer/coaches meeting on Monday evening, January 12. Thirteen adults attended the meeting. Volunteers were appointed to the 5 open Board positions plus Leaders for Apparel and Fund Raising. We also have Head Coaches for Trap, S***t and Sporting Clays/5 stand. The Board approved the proposed schedule, budget and other operational plans for the 2026 Spring Season. The 2026-2027 Board will be elected and installed at the Annual Meeting in early April.

If you want a good overview of the organization and operation of an SCTP team, I recommend you read the SCTP Best Practices Guide posted with the Forms and Resources on the mysctp.com web site.
