The time is near: Sunday, November 1st, daylight saving time ends, and our clocks need to "Fall Back". Take a few extra minutes to check one of the most important safety devices in your home - the smoke detectors.
A working smoke detector can mean the difference between life and death. Make sure yours are ready to protect you and your family.
NEW SMOKE DETECTORS (10-year battery)
Many newer smoke detectors come with a sealed, non-replaceable battery designed to last up to 10 years. You may not be able to change the battery, but you must still test the detector using the test button to make sure it works properly.
OLDER SMOKE DETECTORS
If your detector has a replaceable battery, change it during the time change. If the detector is 10 years old or older, or its age is unknown, replace the entire unit with a new one.
DON’T FORGET!
Test every smoke detector in your home.
Make sure you have smoke detectors on every level of your home, inside each bedroom, and outside each separate sleeping area.
Never ignore a detector that chirps or fails to operate properly.
Make sure everyone in your household knows two ways out of every room and has a designated outdoor meeting place.
