Georgia Club Championships!
Georgia Club Championships is a team event where teams consist of 8 players and compete head to head against other disc golf clubs in Georgia. The Iris City Disc Golf Club are your 2024 Georgia Club Championships Winners and we are in the process of forming our 2026 squad. We will be bringing at least 1 team and if there is enough interest we will bring a second team.
There are 4 rating groups in which 2 players will represent each group. These rating groups do not correspond to the typical divisions (MPO, MA1, MA2, MA3, MA4). The ratings groups are defined as:
Blue: Open
White: 945 Max
Red: 910 Max
Green: 885 Max
Standings from Griffin Tuesday League Season 17 will be used to select the team. Players were grouped based on rating group as defined above and then ordered based on S17 standings. An image is attached where you can find the standings from GTLS17.
Players in the blue, white, and red rating groups all played long pads so ordering players is straightforward. The green rating group consisted of players that competed in both MA2 and MA3 during GTLS17. This meant some played from short pads while others played from long pads. Shorts and longs are not the same difficulty so rank ordering players simply off total strokes would not be fair. Instead, a combination of raw score, adjusted score, average league rating, and current PDGA rating were all factored in together to determine who would represent the Green division for the ICDGC. The final ranking of players within each rating group can also be found in the attached images.
Our goal is to finalize the roster by the end of August. We will go down the list and get availability status from each of you. If all players are available and interested in playing, then players ranked 1 & 2 would be part of Team A and players ranked 3 & 4 would be part of Team B. There will likely be some players that are unable to play or choose to represent neighboring clubs so we would look to the next person in line in those instances. The Iris City Disc Golf Club will pay the registration fees for Team A, but Team B will be asked to pay their own registration fees.
Georgia Club Championships will be taking place at Perkerson Park on October 3rd this year. The event will comprise of one singles round in the morning and head to head team match play in the afternoon. Check out the link in the comments for more details.
