“Oilhead 259 Podcast: Shawn Thomas” is now streaming!

The Oilhead 259 Podcast hosts noted BMW Oilhead enthusiasts, aficionados and industry professionals discussing all things related to the BMW motorcycles known as “Oilheads.” Chris Ory, owner and proprietor of Boxerworks in Watkinsville, Georgia leads the conversation.

In this episode, Chris chats with writer, photographer, BMW certified riding instructor and brand ambassador Shawn Thomas. Shawn & Chris discuss the evolution of the Oilhead and its influence on not only the popularity of adventure riding but also on future motorcycle design. Shawn talks about his career with BMW motorcycles and his love for traveling. Also, he gives a few tips for handling your bike off-road.

BMW r1100 GS Oilhead Refresh (part 6)

Oilhead 259 Podcast host and Boxerworks owner Chris Ory takes a 1998 “ran when parked” BMW r1100 GS through a complete refresh.

In this episode, Chris assembles the fuel system and successfully starts the bike. Unfortunately, there is another road block and Chris has to get into the throttle cables and assemblies.

I owned a 1987 BMW K75s named Brünhilde for about 20 years…one of the most reliable bikes I’ve ever owned. I currently have a 2003 BMW R1150 GS named Gerðr, she required some attention but continues to be well worth it.”

This week on The Road to Barber, we’re featuring Jay Beier and his custom 1984 BMW R100, one of the invited builds for the Builders Best Show presented by BMW MOA at BMW Motorrad Days at the Barber Vintage Festival (Oct. 9–11, 2026).

Based in the greater Nashville area, Jay brings a working-class approach to his builds, combining clean, minimalist styling with serious mechanical upgrades to create an R100 that’s built to be ridden.
