Welcome to the BMW MOA community, Shawn! 👏

“I rode street bikes and dirt bikes for a long time and wanted to have one motorcycle, so what better way than to buy a BMW 1200 GS Adventure!
I am a retired police officer with PTSD and have found being out riding is good for the heart and soul. Visor time is relaxing time. I joined BMW MOA, for the news information, updates, issues with bikes and to meet people from around the states.
Glad to be a part of a large community of riders.”

This week we’re turning the clock back 25 years to the October 2001 issue of BMW Owners News and its look back at the 2001 BMW MOA National Rally “Ride to Redmond.”

The pages captured plenty of what makes a National Rally memorable. Jim Falk presented the Vern Mitchell Trophy to John Vilijoen of Seattle for his beautifully restored 1928 BMW R57 and 1928 R62 at the Rally’s judged Vintage Display.

The Rally also proved that riding has a way of bringing family together. Two sets of brothers made the trip: Dennis, Phil, Chuck and Richard Dever, along with Rob, Dan, John and Vik Arnold.

Elsewhere in the issue, readers followed the BMW demo trucks as they packed up at Mid-Ohio and headed west to Redmond carrying 40 new BMW motorcycles for Rally attendees to test ride. The Dealer Showcase featured 441 Cycle Shop, known today as BMW Motorcycles of Fort Lauderdale, and even the advertisements are a time capsule , including one from Frogg Toggs promoting its rain suits.

Twenty-five years later, the motorcycles, gear and faces may have changed, but the ingredients of a great BMW MOA Rally still look pretty familiar: motorcycles, family, road trips and a whole lot of stories.

Looking for the F 450 GS? It’s up here with us and BMW! We’ve both moved our base of operations for the remainder of the weekend to the Demo Bike Area. Once the sun comes out (tomorrow) they’ll start running the rides again - that’s BMW of course, but also Suzuki, Triumph, Royal Enfield, Yamaha, Honda and CF Moto. In the meantime, come sit on a Beemer (they’ll dry the seat off for you), check out the custom BMWs (and vote for your favorite), watch a pro demo of the GS and RT and enjoy a little liquid sunshine. We are moving the party up the road to the demo rides area! The Builders Best Bike Show will continue. Please come and join us throughout the day today and tomorrow.
