Deputies looking for 3 suspects in Georgetown Co. home invasion

HEMINGWAY, SC (WMBF) – The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying three suspects wanted in connection with a home invasion that occurred in Hemingway early Sunday morning.

At about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a home invasion at a home in the 22200 block of Choppee Road in the Hemingway Community of Georgetown County, officials stated in a news release.

Three suspects entered the home with what appeared to be a handgun, officials stated, and demanded money from two victims. The suspects bound the victims and ransacked the house.

One victim was able to escape out a bedroom window and called 911 from a neighbor's house, the release stated. The suspects left the home and fled in an unknown direction. One victim with injuries was transported to a nearby hospital.

Anyone with information on this incident or the identity of the suspects is urged by officials to call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5101.

Report: Machete-wielding suspect tries to rob man outside MB bar

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man suffered deep cuts to his hand last night outside a Myrtle Beach bar while defending himself from a man with a machete who tried to rob him, according to police reports.

Myrtle Beach Police responded to the Conway Hospital emergency room Wednesday night to find a man with deep cuts to his left hand, the report states.

He told the responding officer that he and another person were outside the Barrel Bar at 2303 S. Kings Highway at about 7:40 p.m. when a man started walking toward them from the rear of the parking lot. The suspect told the victim to give him his money, and when the victim said no, the suspect pulled a black machete from his pants, according to the report.

The suspect swung the machete at the victim, who put up his left hand to prevent from being hit in the head, he told police. The victim said he hit the suspect in the face, pushed him back and ran toward the vehicle belonging to the person he was with. He saw the suspect running toward Ocean Boulevard as they left the scene.

The victim's hand was cut deeply across the pinky, ring and middle fingers, and he received medication and nine stitches, the report states.

The victim described the suspect as a white man, about 5-feet-10-inches tall, weighing about 240 pounds, with a scruffy beard. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, the victim told police, and spoke with a "country" accent, but used street slang.

Police: Student had gun, 200 rounds, knives, cuffs, stun gun

ASLEY, SC — A 17-year-old was arrested Monday morning after a tip led authorities to a car on a high school campus filled with an assortment of weapons, police said.

Easley police said a concerned student told faculty members that another student had weapons and ammunition inside a vehicle.

Faculty members searched the car belonging to 17-year-old Hunter Ray Green of Easley, and said they found numerous weapons, including a loaded .22-caliber handgun.

Police said they also found two wood-handled axes, a stun gun, a razor blade knife, nine other knives of various sizes, handcuffs and 200 assorted rounds of ammunition.

Green is charged with possession of fi****ms on school property.

School District of Pickens County spokesman John Eby said under district policy, Green will be recommended for expulsion for no less than 365 days.

Eby said in a release, "It appears that the guns were left in the car after being used for hunting and recreation and were not taken to the school with the intent to harm anyone. However, bringing weapons on school grounds violates state law, and the school district has a zero-tolerance policy towards weapons on school grounds.

"The timing of this incident is extremely unfortunate, but there is no indication that there was ever an intended threat to the school.

"We commend the student who came forward with the information and the staff members who responded quickly to ensure the safety of Easley High."

Green was being held at the Easley Law Enforcement Center pending a bond hearing

Police: 3 students expelled over 'kill list' Three students have been expelled after a "kill list" was found at an Upstate middle school, according to a police chief.

Honea Path Police Chief David King said a piece of paper with six names on it titled "Kill List" was found at Honea Path Middle School on Wednesday.

King said there are no criminal charges in connection to the list, but he believes three students were expelled.

"We are keeping extra patrols around the school and school officials are being cautious," King said. "But right now we don't see anything that would lead us to believe or expect any violence."

WYFF in Greenville, news affiliate of WMBF, has been contacted by parents of students at the school who said they were told by school officials that the hit list was just a prank and not to worry about it.

One parent, who said his stepdaughter's name was on the list, expressed concern that the school did not notify law enforcement or parents about the list as a matter of normal procedure.

A sheriff who released a radio ad urging Milwaukee-area residents to learn to handle fi****ms so they can defend themselves while waiting for police said Friday that law enforcement cutbacks have changed the way police can respond to crime.

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Florence County Sheriff's Office has released a sketch of the man they believe opened fire on Brittany Drive Jan. 6, killing one man and injuring another.

Deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office responded to the apartment complex on Brittany Drive around 8:45 p.m. that night after a neighbor called 911 to report shots being fired in the area.

"It was pretty terrifying, it was shocking," says Amber Murphy, a neighbor in the area that watched as police taped off the area outside of her apartment.

The people living in the quiet area thought it was an accident, but it was actually a murder scene.

"We saw the blue lights and heard the sirens," says Murphy.

"There were about three ambulances, about five cop cars, people standing all over," agrees neighbor Anthony Bell.

Deputies found one shooting victim in the apartment and another outside. Both men were transported to the hospital.

One of the victims, identified as 31-year-old Luther Sherrod Lisbon, was pronounced dead in the emergency room, Florence County Coroner Keith Lutcken said. The other victim remains hospitalized and his condition is unknown.

"I've seen him around, but never tried contacting him or anything. It's just a very sad situation," says Bell.

Thanks to witness reports, police are on the hunt for at least two suspects after a canine team called to scent failed to locate any leads.

"All night there were a lot of people scattered around the area, a lot of people coming and going, a lot of crime scene tape, picture taking… a lot of dog barking," says Bell.

Witnesses describe the suspects as black males, one wearing a white shirt. The other suspect was reported to be wearing dark clothing. The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

"I was terrified, I was pretty much too scared to sleep at home last night," says Murphy, still shaken from the incident happening so close to her apartment.

But neighbors are hopeful that the FCSO will find those responsible.

"I think it was just that one situation, I don't know exactly what happened, but I don't think it will happen again, not in this area," says Bell.

Now the sheriff's office has released a sketch of the possible suspect, created by a SLED forensic artist.

The suspect is believed to be a short black male in his mid to late 20's with a heavy build, fair skin and facial hair.
