In the few months we've been working with Coach Neil, I've seen Finley progress more than I thought possible in such a short period of time. Neil is fun, engaging, and great with kids. He knows how to motivate Finley to work his hardest, but always makes sure he comes off the ice with a smile on his face. The confidence that Fin has gained on the ice with his coach has also translated to school and making friends. Coach Neil has made sure that skating is the best part of Finley's week, and has helped him fall more in love with hockey.

One of my coaching philosophies is that every rep matters!
I don't believe in the shooting rapid-fire pucks in your garage. I think you should take the approach that you should shoot 10 pucks and go through those 10 reps in your head. What adjustments will I make on the next 10 pucks?
Execute these reps with a conscious focus on improvement incrementally.

One of the biggest challenges I've faced in my professional career was being fired from a job that allowed me to sustain my lifestyle at the time. When I was put in that situation I felt lost and vulnerable.
That experience prepared me for the next time I was challenged in that same capacity. The next time life challenged me I was able to pivot and regroup at a much faster rate. I was also able to step back and gain perspective on that situation and see it as a learning opportunity than a hardship.

Hockey is a very small world once you get involved and is a great way to teach young players life lessons like hard work, trust, leadership and what it means to be part of a team. These are all characteristics of successful people in every facet of life. This is my way of reinforcing these fundamental values through sport specific training.
