On October 12, 1956 the Simpsonville Whirlwinds defeated the Fountain Inn Blue Devils 26-6.

Before the next season, these two schools (along with the original Mauldin HS) were consolidated into Hillcrest. This week, for the first time in 70 years, these two communities will face each other in varsity football in a rec and youth league rivalry decades in the making.

Hillcrest Rams vs. Fountain Inn Fury for the first time ever this Friday (to be played at Wade Hampton's field with Fountain Inn as the "home" team).

Scoring Summary and Stats from tonight's varsity game vs. Summerville at Sirrine Stadium. The Rams outgained the Green Wave in yardage but could not overcome Summerville's special teams.

Hillcrest will face Fountain Inn next week at Wade Hampton's stadium.

This Friday's varsity game against Summerville will be just the second ever meeting between the Rams and Green Wave out of Dorchester County. The only previous meeting was a first round AAAA Division One playoff game in 1998 played at Summerville's McKissick Field. The Green Wave went on to win the most recent of their 10 state titles that season. This season, Summerville is ranked #5 in class AAAAA in the pre-season media poll. The Green Wave have finished as state runner-up each of the past two seasons.

This will be the second time Hillcrest has played a "home" game at Sirrine Stadium. During the 2000 season, the original concrete grandstand at Chandler Stadium was being replaced with the current metal structure on the home side. For that season, Hillcrest had temporary stands in place and greatly reduced seating capacity for home games. At that time, Hillcrest and Mauldin played twice per season and each school got a home game. For the game hosted by the Rams that year, the game was moved to Sirrine to accommodate the rivalry game crowds.
