New Crew Member: Carol McKaba

Carol reached out to me several weeks ago seeking a private training session. She has her own erg at home and wanted to improve her times. We did the session and she was pleased with the suggestions and the results. I told her to come and try a free class as it is a totally different energy and vibe than rowing alone.

She did that free class and really enjoyed it. She came back this morning to do another class and to buy a 10-class punch card.
So, she is now officially a GIR Crew Member. Welcome, Carol, to the GIR family of indoor rowers.

Meter Milestone: Jack Turner

Received this text message from Jack this morning: "Good morning, Lowell. Recently passed 23 million meters."

That's what I would call short and sweet. I'll bet Jack didn't think rowing 23 million meters was short and sweet though. Congratulations, Jack, very impressive. Your new certificate will go up this afternoon. Row on, Jack, row on!!

Meter Milestone: Ken Pelanda

Ken is one of our GIR instructors and he led our 6am class this morning. I got a text from him shortly before noon and all it said was "I eclipsed 16m today".

That was it: no pictures, no fanfare, no big deal. Just OK, there is one goal reached, now on to the next one. Congratulations, Ken, well done. and it was a big deal in my book. Row On!!

Meter Milestone: Jean Horney

Got a text this morning from Jean, letting me know that she hit her target of 10 million lifetime meters while I was on vacation last week. She said she wanted to wait until I got back but then got too anxious and went to her local Y to "finish the deed".

Congratulations, Jean, very well done. Order that free 10-million-meter sweatshirt from Concept2 and wear it with pride.

Meter Milestone: Mike Davis

Mike is one of our GIR rowers that also has his own erg at home. He sent me an email with an attachment a few minutes ago. It said:
Lowell:

Welcome back home. Hope KI was fun and provided enough sun!

I hit 9MM this morning...finally.

Mike D

Congratulations, Mike, nice work and great dedication. I have already printed your new certificate and will get it hung up tomorrow.

Returning Crew Member: Jerry Lieberg

Jerry had rowed with us about 13 months ago and then had to stop due to some medical issues. He came back on March 7th to start rowing again. Ironically, on his first day back he hit his first million meters. He reminded me of that fact this morning after our 9:15 class. I guess I was so happy to have him back, that I forgot to announce his accomplishment.

Congratulations, Jerry, and welcome back.

Meter Milestone: Bill Iannone

Bill is one of our GIR instructors, but he rowed in my 9:15 class this morning. He has been working hard to hit his latest meter target. It paid off this morning as he hit 3 million lifetime meters before the end of the class. Well, done, Bill. Way to set a goal and then work hard to hit it. His 3M certificate will go up tomorrow morning.

He we are after class. When Renee Woo arrived this morning, Bill and I were the only two people there. She said, "Oh, it must be bald man's rowing today". Bill is the bald guy on the left and I am the bald guy on the right. Row On, Bill, row on!

New Crew Member: Amanda Dendy

Amanda reached out to me a week ago saying she wanted to give rowing a try at GIR. She came last night to our 5:45 class and loved it. She did really well and joined right after class and booked a seat for Saturday morning.

I asked how she heard about GIR and she said that Robin O'Connell, a former GIR member, had told her she needed to try us. Thank you, Robin, for the nice endorsement.

Welcome to the GIR family of indoor rowers, Amanda. You are going to love your decision. Row Strong and Live Long!

Another 9:15 MWF party:
Today they were celebrating two meter milestones:
Susan Ward - 12 million lifetime meters
John Thornton - 10 million lifetime meters

Susan is in the middle of the front row holding up ten fingers and John is kneeling right next to her.

Congratulations to both of them. Well done.
