Anyone else feel it in their lower back during Pilates instead of their core?

You’re not doing it wrong. Your body is just doing what it learned to do.

Here’s what’s actually happening: when your deep core muscles (specifically the transversus abdominis and pelvic floor) aren’t activating properly, your lower back steps in to pick up the slack. It’s your body’s way of compensating. The problem is, your back muscles weren’t designed to stabilize movement the way your core was, so you feel it there as strain, tension, or fatigue instead of feeling it where the work is supposed to go.

This is one of the most common things we see with new clients, and it’s almost never about effort. It’s about sequencing. Before your body can access deep core strength, it has to learn what that connection even feels like. That’s not something most people have ever been taught.

In every session at C.O.R.E., we cue the breath, the pelvic floor, and the deep core before we layer movement on top. Not because it’s the “advanced” way to do it, but because it’s the only way that actually works long term. That’s the difference between feeling it in your back and finally feeling it where it counts.

If this is something you’ve experienced, you’re exactly who we’re here for. Your first step starts with 3 classes for $75. Link in bio.

Most people come to Pilates for the core work. What they discover is so much more.

Pilates is not just a workout. It retrains the way your body moves, stabilizes, and performs. Your breath, posture, balance, deep core muscles, and body awareness all work together in ways most fitness routines never address.

That’s why Pilates is for more than one type of person. It helps athletes improve performance, supports recovery from injury, builds strength for everyday life, and creates a stronger foundation for any movement practice.

The physical results are real. But it’s the strength, control, and confidence you build that keep people coming back.

Come discover what your body is capable of.

Nobody walks in here knowing exactly what they’re doing. That’s not the point.

The point is showing up. One class, one decision, one moment where you choose yourself over the couch. That’s where it starts.

We’ve seen it a hundred times: someone comes in nervous, not sure Pilates is “for them,” and leaves already planning when they’re coming back. That first class changes things.

Summer doesn’t start the clock. You do.

The clients who feel the strongest by July are the ones who started in May. Three classes a week, consistently, and by the time summer actually arrives — your body feels different. Not because of a quick fix. Because of Pilates working the way it’s supposed to.

You don’t need a perfect time to start. You just need a first class.

Back pain? Pilates.
Tight hips from sitting all day? Pilates.
Want to get stronger without beating up your joints? Pilates.
Never worked out before and not sure where to start? Also Pilates.

It’s not magic. It’s intelligent, intentional movement — taught by instructors who have thousands of hours between them and genuinely care how you feel walking out.

Whatever you’ve been trying to fix — we’ve probably seen it. And we know where to start.

Most people come for the core workout. They stay because of what changes off the mat.

😴 Sleep. Clients tell us it improves within the first few weeks. When your nervous system gets to do something regulated and intentional, it carries that into the rest of your day.

🪑 Posture. How you sit at your desk, in your car, on your couch...it shifts. Not because you’re trying harder. Because the muscles that are supposed to hold you up are finally awake.

🧠 Stress. There’s something about an hour completely in your body — focused on breath and movement — that quiets the mental noise. It doesn’t solve the problem. It just makes you better at holding it.

💪 Pain. Not because Pilates eliminates it overnight, but because you start to understand what your body is doing and why. That understanding changes everything.

🤍 How you feel about your body. Not in a before-and-after way. In a “I understand this thing I live in” way. That’s the shift we’re most proud of.

This is what consistent Pilates actually does. Ready to feel it for yourself? Come find out. 🔗 Link in bio.

We asked our clients why they started Pilates, and honestly, the answers stopped us in our tracks.

Back pain that had been there so long it felt normal. A body that felt like a stranger after years of pushing through. A doctor’s appointment that turned into a turning point. A friend who just kept saying, “trust me.”

Every single reason was different. But the thing we hear over and over after that first month? “I should have started sooner.”

Whatever brought you here, or whatever’s been keeping you from starting, we’re ready for it. No experience needed. Just you, showing up.

The technically correct term is the Pilates Chair — a piece of equipment Joseph Pilates originally called the Wunderstuhl (German for “wonder stool”). It’s not a modification. It’s not a beginner version. It’s original Pilates, built into the system from the very beginning.

And it’s for everyone.

The person who’s never tried Pilates and wants to start somewhere that feels safe. The athlete who wants to challenge their stability in a completely new way. The woman in her 40s who wants to feel strong without beating up her joints. The person recovering from surgery. Someone managing chronic pain or limited mobility. Anyone who’s ever been told Pilates isn’t for them — because that’s almost never actually true.

The Pilates Chair takes the same principles as everything else we teach — core stability, controlled movement, intentional breath — and delivers them through a completely different relationship with gravity. It’s full-body work.

It’s real Pilates. It just looks different.
