“But I lost 12lbs by going low carb” 😵💫
It’s probably fair to say some of your friends have lost weight by following the diets listed above.
Of those friends, the ones that enjoyed their specific diet/style of restriction have stuck to it.
The ones that hated cutting carbs, fats, or drinking juices 💩 definitely have not continued with their “diet.”
So what happens?
The ones that had success and enjoy sticking to a restrictive diet will tell you “it worked for me, so you should give it a try.”
Let me ask you, do you see yourself sticking to any of those diets for the next several years? If not, why start something you know you will fail at?
The key ingredient to weight loss is creating a calorie deficit.
You can do that through exercise, small changes in foods, and still enjoy your carbs.
Too often we hear of someone losing “x” amount of weight in “x” time by following “x” diet. So, we jump at it.
What you don’t hear is what happens 3 months down the road.
What long term effects would this style of diet have on your health?
What habits would need to change to maintain that weight loss.
Will you be able to go back to your “regular” food intake ever?
These are just a few things you would need to consider.
So let me ask you, is it really going to be easier for you to jump on one those diets on the left… or, would you do better to learn how to count calories and be able to include all foods in balance?
Yes, all foods. (Even fruit 😱, had someone recently tell me fruits are worse than candy bars… 🤦🏻♂️)
You need to choose one if you’re wanting to lose weight. Let me tell you which one I suggest.
Almost daily I have conversations with people telling me keto, paleo, “x” diet, is not working for them.
I’ve never come across someone that is sticking to their calorie deficit plan and not seeing consistent progress.
Yes, there are stalls at times and adjustments have to be made. However, when you have an understanding of the power of your foods and the calories they contain, you can see tremendous progress without giving up an entire category of food.
Your call.
Choose one and be consistent.
